MASON BARNETT — MLB Athletics; 5th-year pro; Auburn; Cartersville HS) … started on the mound last Thursday and was charged with the pitching loss in the Athletics’ 6-5 loss at the Cincinnati Reds. Barnett went 4-1/3 innings, facing 21 batters. He allowed five earned runs on five hits (three home runs) and three walks while striking out seven. The 25-year-old, who has split time this season between the MLB Athletics and the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators, is now 1-2 with two saves this season in 16 appearances in the majors covering 34 innings. He has 36 strikeouts and a 5.56 ERA. The Athletics began the week with a 47-71 record and in fourth place in the American League West. They trail the Houston Astros by 12-1/2 games and will host the Tampa Bay Rays and the Texas Rangers this week.

LOGAN MARTIN — Richmond Flying Squirrels (San Francisco Giants Double-A affiliate; 4th-year pro; Kentucky; Cartersville HS) … made a one-inning relief appearance last Thursday and was tagged with the pitching loss in an 8-3 home loss to the Reading Fightin’ Phils. Martin entered in the sixth inning with the Squirrels leading 3-2, but the Phils had one runner on first. He allowed two hits and two walks as Reading gained a 4-3 lead. Martin is 5-1 with one save in 20 appearances this season between Double-A Richmond and the Arizona Complex League Giants. He has a 3.59 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 47-2/3 innings.  Richmond (63-42 overall, 20-17 second half) plays seven games this week at the Harrisburg Senators.

ANTHONY SEIGLER — Boston Red Sox (MLB; 9th-year pro; Cartersville HS) … appeared in six games last week — appeared in five home games last week and made four starts as the Red Sox swept three games with the Chicago White Sox, but dropped two of three with the Athletics. Seigler went 6-for-18 at the plate, including two walks, two doubles, and three RBI. In MLB action this season, the 27-year-old has a .250 batting average, including three home runs and 12 RBI in 136 official at-bats and 154 plate appearances. Boston entered the week with a 64-54 record, trailing the Tampa Bay Rays by 7-1/2 games in the American League East. The Red Sox currently hold a five-game edge over the Texas Rangers for the American League’s second Wild Card playoff spot. They have four games at Toronto and three at Pittsburgh this week.
