NFL

TREVOR LAWRENCE — Jacksonville Jaguars (NFL, 2nd-yr. pro; Clemson; Cartersville HS) …

finished 22-for-43 passing for 310 yards Sunday in Jacksonville’s 23-17 home loss to the New York Giants. The 23-year-old quarterback also rushed four times for three yards including a 1-yard keeper for a touchdown early in the third quarter that gave the Jaguars a 17-13 lead at the time. Jacksonville (2-5) plays the Denver Broncos in London’s Wembley Stadium next Sunday.



COLLEGE FOOTBALL

KOLBE BENHAM — Marist College (R-Fr., Cartersville HS) … saw action but recorded no stats in the Red Foxes 31-10 loss at Butler last Saturday. Marist (2-5, 2-3 Pioneer Football League) hosts Presbyterian College Saturday.


JONATHAN CRUZ — University of Mississippi (R-Sr., Cartersville HS) … made a pair of second quarter field goals (32-yards and 48-yards) and both of his PAT kicks but the Rebels lost for the first time this season at LSU, 45-20. Cruz also kicked three of his five kickoffs for touchbacks and averaged 64.8 yards per kickoff. 15th-ranked Ole Miss (7-1, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) plays at Texas A&M Saturday night.


DYLAN FORMAN — Shorter University (Sr., Woodland HS) … made a tackle in the third quarter on punt coverage in the Hawks’ 45-10 loss last Thursday night to 8th-ranked Delta State. Shorter (2-6, 0-5 Gulf South Conference) plays at 25th-ranked West Georgia Saturday night.


JONAH GAMBILL — University of Memphis (So., Cartersville HS) … a starter on the Tigers’ offensive line that helped produce 415 total yards (312 passing / 103 rushing) in a 38-28 road loss in New Orleans at 23rd-ranked Tulane last Saturday. Memphis (4-4, 2-3 American Athletic Conference) has a bye week before hosting UCF on November 5.


QUANTE JENNINGS — Presbyterian College (So., Cartersville HS) … had one rushing attempt last Saturday for no gain in a 46-17 Blue Hose home loss to St. Thomas (Minnesota). Presbyterian (1-7, 0-5 Pioneer Football League) plays at Marist College Saturday.


JaCOREY JOHNS — Wake Forest University (R-Jr., Cartersville HS) … had two tackles including a sack and a quarterback hurry in the 10th-ranked Demon Deacons’ 43-15 home win over Boston College last Saturday. Wake Forest (6-1, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) plays at Louisville Saturday afternoon.


LaKWAYME JUPITER — North Carolina Wesleyan (So., Cartersville HS) … the Battling Bishop’s starter at defensive tackle had one tackle last Saturday in a 61-7 loss at Maryville College (Tennessee). North Carolina Wesleyan (2-6, 2-3 Conference USA South) has a bye week prior to hosting Huntingdon College November 5.


JAKE PARKER — Hutchinson Community College (Kansas) (Fr., Cartersville HS) … saw his first action of the season last Saturday but accumulated no stats in the NJCAA No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons’ 65-7 win at Garden City Community College. Hutchinson (7-0, 4-0 Kansas Junior Community College Conference) hosts Highland Community College Saturday.


ANDREW NGUYEN — Berry College (Fr., Cass HS) … had three tackles (one solo) in the Vikings’ 21-14 loss at 5th-ranked Trinity University (Texas) last Saturday in San Antonio. Berry (4-3, 2-2 Southern Athletic Association) entertains Millsaps College (Mississippi) in another SAA matchup this Saturday afternoon.



SAM PHILLIPS — UT-Chattanooga (So., Cartersville HS) … hauled in four receptions for 78 yards including a 53-yard third quarter touchdown — his first of the year — as the FCS 8th-ranked Mocs beat visiting Mercer 41-21. UTC (6-1, 4-0 Southern Conference) plays at Furman this Saturday afternoon.



COURTNEY SLOCUM — Mars Hill University (Jr., Adairsville HS) … made one solo tackle on kickoff coverage and had a solo tackle and a pass breakup at linebacker in the Lions’ 44-13 home win last Saturday over Carson-Newman. Mars Hill (5-2, 5-1 South Atlantic Conference) plays at Virginia-Wise Saturday afternoon.


EVAN SLOCUM — Wake Forest University (So., Cartersville HS) … had three tackles (two solo) including a tackle for a 4-yard loss in the 10th-ranked Deacons’ 43-15 home win last Saturday over visiting Boston College. Wake Forest (6-1, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) plays at Louisville this Saturday afternoon.


BRANDON WADE — University of West Florida (Grad Student, Cartersville HS) … had three tackles including 1.5 for loss in the 8th-ranked Argonauts’ 45-17 home conference win over Mississippi College. UWF (6-1, 4-1 Gulf South Conference) has a home game this Saturday afternoon against West Alabama.



CROSS COUNTRY

BILL ARCHER — University of Montevallo (So., Cartersville HS) … posted his team’s fourth best time (26:58) at the University of Alabama-Huntsville 8K Invitational last Saturday. Individually, he placed 287th of 486 competitors. The Falcons placed 27th of 48 teams in the race won by Wingate University. Montevallo will host the Gulf South Conference Championships Saturday, November 5 on their home course.


VOLLEYBALL

VANESSA JOHNSON — Truett-McConnell University (Fr., Cartersville HS) … saw action in two sets of the Bears’ 3-0 loss this past Saturday at Columbia International University. She had one block. TMU (16-15, 9-7 Appalachian Athletic Conference) hosts Columbia College (South Carolina) Tuesday night prior to traveling to Johnson University (Tennessee) and Union College (Kentucky) Friday and Saturday.


KYA PERKINSON — Piedmont University (Fr., Cass HS) … had one block in the Lions’ win at Agnes Scott last Tuesday and added one kill in a home win Saturday over LaGrange College. Piedmont went 2-2 for the week suffering losses to Oglethorpe and at home Saturday to Covenant College. Piedmont (5-18, 5-8 Collegiate Conference of the South) plays at Wesleyan College Monday night and plays Huntingdon College and Berea College (Kentucky) Saturday at Berea.


MARIA PILIPOSYANS — Reinhardt University (Fr., Cass HS) … in the Eagles’ 3-2 win at Point University last Tuesday and 3-2 home win Saturday over St. Andrews University (North Carolina), Piliposyans totaled 23 kills, 14 blocks, and had one dig. Reinhardt (15-11, 13-3 Appalachian Athletic Conference) hosts conference matches Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday against Brenau, Milligan, and Montreat, respectively.


SOCCER

BRADY CRAIG — Reinhardt University (Fr., Cartersville HS) … the Eagles’ defender saw 70 minutes of time last Wednesday in a 1-1 draw at home with Truett-McConnell and was on the pitch for all 90 minutes of a 1-1 tie Saturday at Milligan University. RU (7-4-4, 6-1-4 Appalachian Athletic Association) hosts Montreat University Wednesday night before traveling to Kentucky Christian Saturday.


HAVYN ISAAC — Young Harris College (Jr., Adairsville HS) … started in net and had eight saves, but yielded three goals in the Mountain Lions’ 6-0 loss Saturday at 24th-ranked Flagler College. YHC (4-10, 4-6 Peach Belt Conference) makes a return trip to St. Augustine Friday for the PBC Quarterfinals at Flagler.


RUSSELL SHEALY — Syracuse University (R-Sr., Cartersville resident; Darlington HS) … made two saves and allowed one goal in a 2-1 home win last Tuesday over Bucknell. He then made one save and yielded one goal in a 1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference draw at N.C. State. Shealy’s season mark improved to 11-2-2 as the 4th-ranked Orange moved to 12-2-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the ACC. Syracuse plays its final regular season game Friday night at home against Boston College. The Orange will host an ACC Championship Tournament quarterfinal Wednesday, Nov. 2.


MADISON SHOOK — Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (So., Cass HS) … made a pair of starts in Fillies losses last Wednesday and Saturday to South Georgia State 7-0 and Gordon State 1-0. ABAC (2-9, 1-6 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association) plays at South Georgia State Wednesday in the GCAA playoffs.


GOLF

CHANC WILLIS — Reinhardt University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … tied for 56th individually with rounds of 81-78-84 (+27) as the Eagles finished tied for sixth at the AAC Fall Championship played at the 6,801-yard, par-72 Cross Creek Plantation in Seneca, Georgia October 17-18. The tournament was won by Dalton State. The next event for Reinhardt will be the Kinderlou Forest Spring Invitational February 20-21 in Valdosta.


SWIMMING

GRAYSON BREEDLOVE — Lenoir-Rhyne University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … finished 11th (1:02.85) in the 100-yard freestyle last Saturday at the Wingate Tri-Meet where the Bears’ competed with 6th-ranked Wingate and Catawba. LRU hosts Catawba and Lees-McRae Saturday afternoon.


MALLORY COOK — University of Montevallo (So., Adairsville HS) … was sixth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:23.82); eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.16); 10th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.94); and was on the seventh place 200-yard medley relay team last Saturday at Berry College as the Falcons faced Emmanuel College and Berry. Montevallo swims at the Sewanee Invitational Friday night and Saturday.


HARPER POWELL — Florida Tech (So., Adairsville HS) … was on the Panthers’ fourth place 400-yard freestyle relay team; finished fifth (25.31) in the 50-yard freestyle; and was seventh (1:04.12) in the 100-yard backstroke last Friday in a 166-96 loss to 16th-ranked Lynn University. Florida Tech’s next meet is Wednesday, November 9 at home against Keiser University.
