Bartow 10U baseball places third at GRPA state tourney


The Bartow County 10U baseball team finished third at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Tournament following a pair of losses Thursday in Bainbridge. Bartow, who had opened the tournament with wins over Crisp County and Grady County on Tuesday and Wednesday, fell to Pooler 11-1 Thursday and then dropped a rematch with Grady County later in the day, 17-7.

Pooler broke open a 2-1 game in the fourth inning with a seven-run outburst. Bartow’s lone run crossed in the second inning.

In the loss to Grady County, Bartow trailed 7-0 early. The locals narrowed the gap to 7-6 by the end of the third inning, but Grady put the game away with a 10-run fourth inning.

Cade McCorkle and Logan Smith led the Bartow 10U offense in Thursday’s two games. McCorkle also had one RBI. Will Whitman finished with one hit and two RBIs. Leroy Watts contributed a hit and one RBI. Maddox Koontz added a base hit and Joseph Frederick was credited with one RBI.
