Bartow baseball teams advance at GRPA state tournaments
The Bartow County 14U baseball team won its GRPA State Tournament opener Tuesday at Diamond Lakes Park in Augusta.
The locals defeated South Bryan County, 16-13, and advanced to the second round of the eight-team, double-elimination tournament.
Bartow scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning and held on for the victory.
Clayton Blackmon had three hits for Bartow County including one triple. Okie Ellinger and Jayce Little followed with two hits each. Noah Chappell contributed a double while James Lee, Kasey Jacobs, and Zachary Hawkins also added one hit apiece.
14U Bartow County plays Lyons in the second round Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. Lyons won its first round game over Wayne County Tuesday night, 12-4.
BARTOW GREEN 8U 18, ST. SIMONS 9
The Bartow Green 8U coach pitch baseball team earned a first round win Tuesday night at the 2022 GRPA State Tournament hosted at Riverbend Park in Whitfield County.
Bartow County Green 8U defeated St. Simons, 18-9.
The Bartow Green offense had four different players with two hits including one double each — including Cash Miller, Jake Nida, Ethan Massey, and Titus Childers. Camdyn Forsyth, Cole Baker, Cooper Adcock, and Landry Elrod all added one hit apiece.
The win advances Bartow Green to the second round Wednesday morning against Crisp County.
SWAINSBORO-EMANUEL 16, CARTERSVILLE 12U GOLD 0
The Cartersville 12U Gold baseball team lost its opening game Tuesday at the GRPA State Tournament at Mill Creek Park in Statesboro.
Cartersville Gold was shutout by Swainsboro-Emanuel, 16-0.
Swainsboro-Emanuel scored three runs in the first inning, seven in the second, and six more in the third inning for the win.
Easton Lee and Andy Holstein had the only base hits for Cartersville.
The 10-team double-elimination tournament continues Wednesday morning for Cartersville with an elimination game against Sumter County.
