Bartow County 10U baseball advances at GRPA state tourney; Cartersville 8U eliminated

The Bartow County 10U baseball team won its second straight game at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Tournament Wednesday in Bainbridge, defeating Grady County 11-5.
The win advances Bartow 10U to the final three of the state tournament. The locals will now square off with the only other unbeaten team remaining, Pooler, at 10 a.m. Thursday morning.
The Bartow/Pooler winner will reach the championship round on Friday needing just one more win for the state title. The loser must play an elimination game Thursday afternoon.
In Bartow’s win Wednesday, Cade McCorkle picked up the pitching win in relief of starter Noah Rogers. McCorkle scattered six hits and one walk to allow two earned runs (four total). He fanned four. Rogers worked a spotless first inning, but then was lifted for McCorkle after issuing three straight walks in the second inning.
McCorkle led the Bartow offense with three hits. Rogers followed with a pair of hits including a double and three RBIs. Leroy Watts collected two hits. Karsin Darby finished with a hit and four RBIs. Houston Walden contributed one hit and one RBI while Logan Smith and Will Whitman added one base hit each.
CARTERSVILLE GOLD 8U COACH PITCH ELIMINATED AT GRPA STATE TOURNAMENT
The Cartersville Gold 8U Coach Pitch baseball team lost its second straight game and was eliminated at the GRPA State Tournament Wednesday at Lanier Point Park in Gainesville.
Cartersville Gold 8U fell to tournament host Gainesville, 16-12.
Gainesville led 6-2 through three innings and built a 14-3 advantage heading into the bottom of the fifth. Cartersville rallied for seven runs in the fifth to make the score 14-10, but got no closer.
Cartersville finished with 22 hits in the game.
RJ Perkins and Jon Ryder Myers had three hits each. Myers’ hits included a double. Perkins’ hits included an inside the park home run. Connor Murphy followed with two hits including an inside the park home run and five RBIs. Colby McMillan (2 RBIs), Micah Tatum (RBI), Tate Warlick, Weston Shirley, and Camden Johnson contributed two hits each. Evan Blankenberger, Jack Turner, Bentley Duren (RBI), and Linkoln Crump added one hit apiece.
