Bartow County 12U softball advances at GRPA District 5 tourney

The Bartow County 12U Softball Team defeated Whitfield County 10-1 on Tuesday at the GRPA District 5 Tournament at Edwards Park in Dalton.  With the win, Bartow 12U is one of three teams remaining in the double-elimination tournament that continues through Thursday night.

Carolina Owen and Emma Kuykendall combined to pitch a no-hitter in the victory. Owen had eight strikeouts in the first three frames, and Kuykendall struck out two in one inning of work.

Owent (double, two RBI) and Saydie Ray had two hits for Bartow 12U. Mckynlee Gunter (triple, two RBI), Harper Fox (RBI), Ellie Hardman (RBI), Annaleigh Altizer (RBI), and Armauni Palacios (RBI) added one hit. Gracie Moon contributed one RBI.

Bartow 12U faces Trion on Wednesday night, with the winner advancing to the championship round on Thursday with no losses. The Bartow/Trion loser will need to win three consecutive elimination games to win the tournament.

CARTERSVILLE 8U COACH-PITCH SOFTBALL IN ELIMINATION GAMES

The Cartersville 8U Coach-Pitch Softball Team is 2-1 through Tuesday’s games at the 10-team GRPA District 5 Tournament at Edwards Park in Dalton.

Cartersville 8U has wins over Bartow County and Murray County, with a loss coming to Summerville on Tuesday. Cartersville 8U plays Trion on Wednesday night in an elimination game and needs four straight wins to capture the tournament title.

The Bartow County 8U Coach-Pitch Softball Team finished the tournament with losses to Cartersville and Dalton.

BARTOW 10U MACHINE-PITCH SOFTBALL FINISHED FIFTH

The Bartow County 10U Machine-Pitch Softball Team went 1-2 and placed fifth at the GRPA District 5 Tournament at Edwards Park in Dalton.

Bartow 10U defeated Cedartown 10-6 but lost to Whitfield County (17-3) and Rome (9-4).
