Bartow County Junior Little League team advances at state tournament
The Bartow County Junior Little League baseball team (13-14 year olds) won its opening game of the 2022 state tournament Saturday 15-1 over West Point in five innings.
The tournament is being hosted by Hart County Little League.
Bartow scored twice in the top of the first inning and never trailed. West Point scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning, but never got any closer.
Bartow County, who scored in every offensive frame, led 6-1 after three innings and took control by scoring seven times in the top of the fourth.
Hudson Parr had two hits for the Bartow offense and picked up the pitching win for the locals. Dutch Hernandez and Elisha Moore also contributed two hits each and both took the mound in relief.
Isaac Burnett, Zaylen Cochran, and Bryland Reynolds each had a double for the Bartow attack. Lyle Woody and Landon Cassidy added one hit apiece.
Bartow County advances to the second round of the six-team, double-elimination tournament and will face Elbert County Junior Little League at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
The tournament is scheduled to continue through Friday with the state champion advancing to the Junior Little League Southeast Regional in Broadway, Virginia August 4-9.
