Bartow County Junior Little League team improves to 2-0 at state tournament

The Bartow County Junior Little League baseball team (13-14 year olds) won its second round game Sunday afternoon at the double-elimination state tournament in Hartwell, defeating Elbert County 15-4 in five innings. The victory earns Bartow County (2-0) an off day Monday and guarantees the team no worse than third place. The locals will use the off day to prepare for a third round matchup against Athens (2-0) Tuesday night at 6 p.m.

Sunday, Bartow struck for three runs in the first inning and three more in the second inning for an early 6-0 lead. The local team added five more runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth on their way to victory.

All four Elbert County runs were scored in the fifth inning.

Isaac Burnett started on the mound for Bartow County and worked into the fourth inning without yielding a run. He scattered two hits and two walks while striking out two. Harrison Cole pitched in relief and also struck out two.

Burnett paced the offense with three hits. Landon Cassidy followed with a pair of hits. Elisha Moore and Hudson Parr had doubles. Dutch Hernandez and Cole added one hit apiece.

In Sunday’s other Junior Little League state tournament game in Hartwell, Athens defeated Hart County 16-4.
