Bartow County Little League (12U) finishes third at state tournament


Bartow County Little League (12U) gathers with coaches following their 6-5 loss to Dudley Little League Thursday night at Hicks Park in Cartersville. Bartow County finished the double-elimination state tournament with a 3-2 record and placed third in Georgia.

Bartow County Little League (12U) baseball had its state tournament run stopped short Thursday night with a 6-5 loss to Dudley Little League at Hicks Park in Cartersville.

The loss eliminated Bartow County in the double-elimination tournament and moved Dudley into the championship round against unbeaten Harris County Friday night.

The Dudley/Harris County winner will represent Georgia and advance to the Southeast Regional August 4-9 in Warner Robins.

Bartow County finished 3-2 in state tournament games and placed third. The locals had wins over Smyrna, Peachtree City, and Athens. The two losses came to the two teams in the finals.

Both teams scored three times in the first inning Thursday night with Bartow taking a 5-3 lead in the third inning. Dudley tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth.

Bartow pitcher Blaine Groce (5 IP, 6ER, 5H, 4BB, 2K) worked five strong innings in a complete game effort but suffered the tough luck pitching loss. Groce also had two hits on offense including one RBI.

Noah Janssen also had two hits for Bartow. Elijah Bryant and Huck Garlin contributed one hit each. Noah Rogers walked twice and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly while Matthew Zander also added one RBI.
