Bartow County Little League 12U wins 2022 Georgia District 1 crown


Bartow County Little League 12U defeated Cartersville twice Tuesday night to win the 2022 Georgia District 1 championship. The title sends Bartow to the Georgia Little League State Tournament July 16-21.

Bartow County Little League 12U defeated Cartersville Little League twice Tuesday night at Hamilton Crossing Park to win the Georgia Little League District 1 championship.


Bartow County won the first game Tuesday night 10-0 and captured the district title with a 9-4 win in the nightcap.


Cartersville entered the double-elimination championship round undefeated with weekend wins over Rockmart (10-1) and Bartow County (4-3 in eight innings).


Entering Tuesday night, Bartow had a pair of wins over Dalton (6-4 and 16-1) along with Sunday’s loss to Cartersville.


The District 1 title sends Bartow County 12U to the eight-team, double-elimination Georgia Little League State Tournament July 16-21. The state tournament will be hosted by Cartersville Little League at Hicks Park in Atco.



BARTOW COUNTY 10, CARTERSVILLE 0


Matt Zander tossed a complete game shutout in Tuesday night’s first game as Bartow County blanked Cartersville, 10-0, in five innings.


Zander scattered three hits and only one walk while striking out eleven.


After a scoreless first inning, Bartow took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Bartow then added four runs in the third, three in the fourth, and one more run in the fifth inning to wrap up the win.


Gunner Pullen had three hits to pace the Bartow offense. Zander followed with two hits. Elijah Bryant, Blaine Groce, Noah Rogers, Huck Garlin, and Cade McCorkle contributed one hit apiece.


Cam Kachinsky, Tyler Hickman, and Brant Rutledge had one hit each for Cartersville.


BARTOW COUNTY 9, CARTERSVILLE 4

In the winner-take-all District 1 championship game Tuesday night, Bartow County and Cartersville were knotted at 3-3 after the first two innings. Bartow posted four runs in the top of the third to take a 7-3 lead and added two more in the fifth. Cartersville pushed a final run across in the bottom of the fourth.


Blaine Groce earned the pitching win for Bartow County by working 5-1/3 innings. He scattered six hits and two walks allowing just two earned runs. Groce struck out six.


Cade McCorkle retired the final two outs on the mound for Bartow including one strikeout.


Huck Garlin had three hits to lead the Bartow County attack. Noah Janssen followed with two hits. Groce, Matt Zander, Noah Rogers, and McCorkle contributed one hit apiece.


Avery Slye had two hits for Cartersville. Cameron Kachinsky, Tyler Hickman, Aiden Turner, Brant Rutledge, River Wade, and Caden McMullin finished with one hit each.


Bartow County, as District 1 champion, will open the 2022 Georgia Little League State Tournament Saturday, July 16 against the champion of Georgia District 2. The first round game is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Joe Frank Harris Field at Hicks Park.


The double-elimination tournament will continue through Thursday, July 21.
