Bartow Little League 8-10 year old baseball advances to meet Cartersville in District 1 finals
The Bartow County Little League 8-10 year old tournament team defeated Rockmart 4-2 Wednesday night at Hamilton Crossing Park in an elimination game to earn a Georgia Little League District 1 championship round matchup with Cartersville.
Jackson Watts pitched five innings for Bartow and recorded seven strikeouts. Parker Rampley closed out the sixth inning and fanned two.
Rockmart led 2-0 early but Bartow scored three times in the third inning and added an insurance run in the fourth.
August Blassengame led the Bartow County offense with two hits. Knox Janssen, Gabe Wise, and Gray Chancey added one hit apiece.
Bartow County and Cartersville will play for the District 1 championship Thursday night at 6 p.m. Cartersville, who defeated Bartow 4-3 earlier in the tournament, needs just one win Thursday to win the championship. Bartow County must win twice. A second game will follow if needed.
8U BARTOW GREEN SPLITS WEDNESDAY GAMES AT GRPA STATE TOURNAMENT
The Bartow County 8U Green baseball team split games Wednesday in the GRPA State Tournament at Riverbend Park in Dalton. The locals defeated Crisp County 9-1 before losing to Jefferson 10-8 in extra innings.
In the morning win, Bartow Green scored four runs in the third inning and five in the fifth inning.
Jake Nida (triple), Camden Forsyth, Cooper Adcock, and Sam Williams had one hit each for Bartow County.
The loss to Jefferson drops Bartow Green to the loser’s bracket of the 12-team double-elimination tournament.
In that loss Adcock had a double while Cash Miller and Titus Childers added one hit each.
Bartow Green, now 2-1 in the tournament, will play St. Simons in an elimination game Thursday morning at 9 a.m. The matchup is a rematch of Bartow's opening round game in the tournament. Bartow Green defeated St. Simons Tuesday, 18-9.
CARTERSVILLE 12U GOLD STAYS ALIVE AT GRPA STATE TOURNEY
Playing in an elimination game Wednesday at Mill Creek Park in Statesboro, the Cartersville Gold 12U team defeated Sumter County 6-1 to stay alive in the GRPA State Tournament.
Luke Thomson (5.1 IP, 0R, 4H, 2BB, 6K) tossed 5+ shutout innings to earn the pitching win. Logan Kemp (0.2 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1K) closed out the final frame.
Darren Cole had two hits including a home run for Cartersville. Easton Lee also had two hits. Steven Tumlin (RBI), Joel Rensch, and Corbin Mullinax added one hit each. Thomson contributed one RBI.
Cartersville Gold plays Moultrie in an elimination game Thursday morning at 9 a.m. with the survivor playing Glynn County at 11 a.m.
Vidalia and Wayne County are the remaining unbeaten teams in the 10-team, double-elimination tournament.
BARTOW COUNTY 14U TEAM FINISHES FIFTH AT GRPA TOURNEY
The Bartow County 14U baseball tournament team finished 1-2 at the 2022 GRPA State Tournament at Diamond Lakes Park in Augusta to tie for fifth place.
After winning their opening game of the tournament Tuesday night over South Bryan County 16-13, the local team lost twice Wednesday.
Bartow 14U fell to Lyons 17-0 and Swainsboro-Emanuel 15-0.
BARTOW 8U COACH PITCH SOFTBALL DROPS TWO AT STATE TOURNAMENT
The 8U Bartow County coach pitch softball team lost twice Wednesday and was eliminated from the 2022 GRPA State Tournament at Riverbend Park in Whitfield County.
Bartow, who won the District 5 championship, lost the Whitfield County 32-20 and Calhoun 18-10 in the state tournament to finish fourth.
The Bartow roster included: Annaleigh Altizer, Hallie Bell, Audrey Benham, Olivia Caverly, Rylee English, Dawsyn Eure, McKynlee Gunter, Addalyn Johnson, Evie Privett, Saydie Ray, Adalynn Reynolds, Emarie Thomason, and Brinley Weaver.
