Big fifth inning lifts Woodland to win over Decatur
The Wildcats posted five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning Tuesday night to take control and head to victory in a back-and-forth contest with the visiting Decatur Bulldogs.
Woodland led 3-0 after two innings before Decatur scored twice in the third and added two more runs in the top of the fifth to grab a 4-3 lead.
Woodland’s rally in the bottom of the fifth closed out the scoring in an 8-4 Wildcats win.
Coby Barrett (1 IP, 0R, 2H, 1BB, 1K) picked up the pitching win for Woodland in relief of starter Rowan Billings (4 IP, 4ER, 3H, 5BB, 6K). Austin Daves (2 IP, 0R, 3H, 0BB, 3K) collected a two-inning save.
Ayden Ray finished with three hits and two RBIs for the Wildcats. Mason Williams drove in two runs with one double while Conner Stermer added one hit.
The loss dropped Decatur to 1-2 on the season.
Woodland (1-1) is scheduled to visit Villa Rica Thursday in a 5:55 p.m. start.
