Bishop, Canes power past Cass; Adairsville earns series split with Panthers

Jordan Bishop hit a leadoff solo home run and a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning on Thursday night to jump-start the Lady Canes to a seven-run frame and an eventual 10-2 region win over visiting Cass.
Cartersville led 7-1 after one inning and 10-1 through four innings en route to a 10-2 win in five.
Allana Williams had three hits including a triple and three RBI for the Hurricanes. LaKaiya Banks followed with two hits and one RBI. Addi Burns, Kennedy Crenshaw, Zoie Shiflett, and Kinsey Woodard also had hits.
Shiflett picked up the pitching win with a four-inning start. She allowed one earned run on two hits and one walk while striking out seven. Pressley Crabbe worked one inning in the circle for Cartersville yielding one earned run on two hits and one walk with one strikeout.
Cass starting pitcher Kylie Gentry (0.2 IP, 7R, 3ER, 6H, 1BB) suffered the loss. Lily Powell (3.1 IP, 3ER, 5H, 2BB, 2K) pitched in relief.
Darianna Sosa (double, RBI) had two hits for the Lady Colonels. Molli Morrow (RBI) and Chloe Hill (double) added one hit.
Cartersville (11-2, 9-0) visits Woodland on Tuesday.
Cass (7-5, 5-4) hosts Southeast Whitfield on Tuesday.
ADAIRSVILLE 12, RIDGELAND 5
The Lady Tigers earned a series split with Ridgeland on Thursday evening by defeating the Panthers 12-5 in Rossville.
Ridgeland defeated Adairsville on Tuesday, 15-5.
Thursday night Adairsville scored six runs in the top of the second inning to take an early lead but Ridgeland quickly narrowed the margin to 6-4. The Lady Tigers then added on runs in the third and fourth innings to extend the lead to 9-4 and held off the Panthers down the stretch.
Ashlyn Carlton collected the pitching victory for Adairsville.
Brie Patterson (homer, double, sac fly, and four RBI), Ashlynn Durden (RBI), and Maddie Baggett (two RBI) led the Lady Tigers’ attack with two hits.
Alivia Joslin (RBI), Ansley Powell (RBI), Lily Roberts, Carlton, Riley Mounger, and Cheyenne Gunter (triple) added one hit.
The loss dropped Ridgeland to 7-10 overall and 3-4 in Region 7-AAA.
Adairsville (10-6, 3-5) hosts Christian Heritage on Wednesday.
CEDARTOWN 14, WOODLAND 6
Woodland softball dropped a Region 7-AAAA contest at Cedartown on Thursday, 14-6.
The Lady Cats led 6-3 through 2-½ innings but the host Bulldogs posted seven runs in the bottom of the third to take control. Cedartown added two runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to close out the game.
Gracie Korb (4 IP, 12ER, 12H, 4BB, 1K) took the pitching loss for the Wildcats. Kamryn Smith (0.1 IP, 2ER, 3H, 1BB) pitched in relief.
Bailey Gerstner (triple, two RBI) and Bitsy Hartsfield (RBI) had two hits for Woodland. Korb (RBI) and Lanie Calhoun added one hit. Bailey Ryan produced one RBI.
Cedartown improved to 12-3 overall and 8-3 in region play.
Woodland (3-7, 3-6) hosts Cartersville on Tuesday.
