Bulldogs, Brumlow earn spot in NCAA National Championship Tournament
Cartersville High product Buck Brumlow and the University of Georgia men’s golf team qualified for the NCAA National Championship Tournament Wednesday with a fourth place team finish at the Bryan, Texas Regional at Traditions Club.
Brumlow finished the 54-hole Regional with a tie for 29th place individually. He was 4-over-par for the tournament with rounds of 72-68-80 — 220.
Other Bulldogs’ individual final scores included: Maxwell Ford (T5, -3, 213), Trent Phillips (T12, -1, 215), Ben Van Wyk (T39, +6, 222), and Nic Cassidy (T45, +8, 224) in the 76-player field.
Arizona (-13) won the Bryan Regional followed by Pepperdine (-8), Texas A&M (-4), Georgia (-1), and Kansas (+3). Those five teams each qualify for the NCAA National Championship Tournament May 27-June 1 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Thirty teams qualified for the NCAA Championship from six regionals across the country.
The Championship will consist of three days of stroke play on Friday, May 27 thru Sunday, May 29 (54 holes), after which the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team will be determined. That is followed by a final day of 18 holes of stroke play on Monday, May 30 to determine the top eight teams that will advance to match play as well as the 72-hole individual champion. The team national champion will be determined by a match-play format that will consist of quarterfinals and semifinals conducted on Tuesday, May 31, followed by finals on Wednesday, June 1.
