Georgia Military College delivered a dramatic finish Tuesday afternoon, using back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the seventh inning to plate the game-winning run and edge visiting Georgia Highlands 2-1 in a GCAA conference softball matchup at the Bulldogs’ home field.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Georgia Highlands answered in the top of the third when Cece Williams launched a solo home run to tie the score at 1-1. That was all the offense the Chargers could muster, as they managed just one other base hit the rest of the way — a double by Ahmani Green in the top of the second inning.
With the game knotted at 1-1 entering the final frame, Georgia Military put together the clutch rally it needed. Consecutive doubles produced the decisive run, handing the visitors a tough 2-1 defeat.
Emily Ferro took the hard-luck loss in the circle for Georgia Highlands. The Chargers’ starter worked 6⅓ innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five.
Georgia Military improved to 19-14 overall and 5-2 in GCAA play with the victory. Georgia Highlands fell to 13-10 overall and 3-2 in conference action.
The Chargers will look to bounce back this weekend when they travel to Andrew College for a conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 28, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
