Calhoun outlasts Woodland in 11 innings, 1-0


In an epic pitching duel Tuesday in Gordon County, Calhoun outlasted Woodland 1-0 in 11 innings to win the Region 7-AAAAA battle.

Calhoun’s Hagan Banks and Bryse Ingle combined to limit Woodland to only three hits and one walk while striking out 22 Wildcats.

Woodland’s Carter Heath and Peyton Posey were almost as good. Heath kept the Yellow Jackets off the scoreboard for the first six frames scattering three hits and two walks. He fanned seven.


Posey, who was tagged with the tough-luck loss, went four and two-thirds innings. He gave up the game’s lone run with two outs in the eleventh inning. He allowed three hits, all in the final frame, and one walk. Posey recorded one strikeout.


Braden Saunders had the game winning RBI single for Calhoun. His two-out liner drove in Barrett Saunders who had doubled earlier.


Chase Carson, Posey, and Drew Billings had one hit each for Woodland.

Eighth-ranked Calhoun improved to 16-6 overall and 9-4 in region play with the victory.


Woodland (8-18, 4-9) will host a doubleheader with the Yellow Jackets Friday starting at 5 p.m.
