Canes and Wildcats begin region series with wins

Cartersville and Woodland both opened a region three-game series with wins on Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, Cass was blanked at home by Allatoona.
CARTERSVILLE 4, CEDARTOWN 1
The Canes scored two runs in the fourth and two in the sixth at Cedartown Tuesday evening, and pitchers Nate Russell and Wyatt Earwood limited the Bulldogs to three hits and a single run for a 4-1 victory.
Nolan Elrod singled home a run for Cartersville in the fourth inning, and James Manring forced home a second run with a sacrifice fly. Cole Crawford hit a solo home run in the sixth to give the Canes a 3-0 lead, and Tyler Hickman later drove in a fourth run with an RBI single.
Cedartown scored in the bottom of the sixth on a single, a stolen base, and two groundouts.
Russell made the pitching start for Cartersville and worked into the sixth inning. He allowed one earned run on two hits and three walks while striking out seven. Earwood retired the final four outs on the mound and yielded only one hit.
Cartersville (15-7, 13-0) and Cedartown (11-7, 9-4) will continue their series on Friday in a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Richard Bell Field.
WOODLAND 9, HIRAM 2
The Wildcats scored eight runs in their final two offensive frames Tuesday night to break open a tight game and defeat the visiting Hiram Hornets, 9-2.
Hiram took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, scoring on an infield error. Woodland answered in the third on a bases-loaded walk. Three more walks and three hits in the fifth gave the Wildcats a 6-1 lead, and they added three more tallies in the sixth on two more hits, a walk, and a hit batter.
Alfredo Romo (6 IP, 1R, 0ER, 3H, 3BB, 6K) made the pitching start for Woodland and collected the victory. Kallen Reynolds (1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 1BB) closed out the final inning on the mound.
Jacob Tatum had two hits, including a double and four RBI for the Wildcats. Preston Sorrells (double, two RBI), Grant Tidwell, and Tommy Risner (RBI) each added one hit.
Woodland (9-12, 4-9) plays a doubleheader at Hiram (8-14, 2-11) starting at 5 p.m. on Friday.
ALLATOONA 12, CASS 0
The Allatoona Buccaneers blanked the Cass Colonels 12-0 on Tuesday evening at the Cass Athletic Complex in the first game of their three-game series.
Allatoona sent 16 batters to the plate in the top of the first inning and scored 12 runs to take control of the game from the beginning. Cass managed five hits, but Bucs’ pitcher Joey DiMartino struck out three and kept the Colonels off the scoreboard in the five-inning game.
Landon Lamb (0.1 IP, 8ER, 8H) made the pitching start for Cass and was tagged with the loss. Andrew Ray (4.2 IP, 4R, 2ER, 6H, 1BB, 3K) took over on the mound in the first inning and pitched the rest of the way for the Colonels.
Dustin Wallin had two hits for Cass. Noah Rogers, Aidan Castaneda, and Cooper Rampley had the other hits for the Colonels.
Cass (7-15, 4-9) completes the series on Friday with a doubleheader at Allatoona (14-8, 8-5).
