Canes beat Woodland for 10th region win; Colonels win series opener with Southeast Whitfield

Local high school baseball teams battled in region action on Tuesday evening, with Cartersville topping Woodland and Cass defeating Southeast Whitfield in five innings. At Adairsville, the Tigers had a six-game winning streak snapped by Heritage-Catoosa.
CARTERSVILLE 11, WOODLAND 1
Cartersville's starting pitcher, Nate Russell, delivered a five-inning, one-hit performance, while the Purple Hurricanes managed to score in each of the five innings, securing an 11-1 region victory over Woodland on Tuesday.
The Wildcats managed to score a run in the bottom of the first inning with a single, two walks, and a hit batter. However, aside from one more baserunner who reached due to an error, Russell retired Woodland in order for the rest of the game.
Clayton Wilkes (3 IP, 7R, 5ER, 8H, 4BB, 1K), Cameron O’Shields (1 IP, 2ER, 1H, 3BB, 1K), and Brylon Reynolds (1 IP, 2ER, 2H, 1BB) pitched for Woodland.
Preston Sorrells had the first-inning single for the Wildcats.
Nolan Elrod (sacrifice fly, three RBI), Brayden Logan (two RBI), and David Vargas (RBI) each had two hits for the Hurricanes. James Manring (sacrifice fly, two RBI), Cooper Reynolds (triple, sacrifice fly, two RBI), Clint Hosea (RBI), Harris Turner, and Gianni Gandy each added one hit for Cartersville.
The Canes (12-7, 10-0) will host the Wildcats (8-10, 3-7) for a doubleheader on Friday at 5 p.m.
CASS 13, SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 2
The Colonels scored in all four of their offensive innings Tuesday evening, leading to a 13-2 home victory over the Southeast Whitfield Raiders.
Cass led 6-0 after two innings before adding four runs in the third inning and three in the fourth for a five-inning region win.
Landon Lamb (3 IP, 1ER, 3H, 5BB, 4K) and Andrew Ray (2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 3H, 1BB, 4K) shared the pitching duties and combined for eight strikeouts.
Zach Stiles produced three hits, including one triple and two RBI to pace the Cass bats. Maddox Koontz (double, two RBI) and Dustin Wallin (double, RBI) had two hits. Noah Rogers (double, two RBI), Aidan Castaneda (RBI), Easton Lee, Kasey Jacobs, Lamb (double, RBI), and Ray each added one hit.
The Raiders (2-17, 1-9) will host Cass (5-14, 2-8) in a doubleheader on Friday at 5 p.m.
HERITAGE 6, ADAIRSVILLE 2
On Tuesday evening, the Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as they fell 6-2 to the visiting Heritage-Catoosa Generals in a Region 7-AAA game. This defeat ended Adairsville's six-game winning streak in region play.
Heritage pitcher Cohen Fletcher allowed seven hits and one walk, securing a complete-game victory on the mound. He also recorded three strikeouts. Peyton Wilson hit a three-run home run in the top of the first inning, providing the Generals with an early lead. They scored an additional three runs in the sixth inning.
McCayden Hufsttler (5 IP, 3ER, 6H, 3BB, 3K) made the pitching start for Adairsville and was tagged with the loss. Tyler Parker (1 IP, 3R, 2ERE, 2H, 2BB, 1K) and Evan Hardin (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1K) also pitched for the Tigers.
Seven players each had one hit for Adairsville, including Hayden Miller (double, RBI), Harrison Cole (double), Westin Barfield, Matthew Cook, Brody Varner, Parker, and Hufstetler. Evan Hardin added one RBI.
The Generals (12-6, 6-1) will host the Tigers (15-5, 7-3) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., and the three-game series will conclude on Friday at Adairsville.
