Canes blank Catamounts; Woodland downs Blue Devils

Three Canes homered and Ryan Johnson struck out seven in a five-inning, one-hitter Wednesday as No. 1-ranked Cartersville won at Dalton, 10-0.


Cameron Cochran, Aidan Larkin, and Luke Miller hit home runs for the Hurricanes who pounded out 14 total hits against the Catamounts.


Caleb Daniel had three hits including a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Miller (two RBIs), Larkin (two RBIs), Cochran (four RBIs), Charlie Rothschild, and Nolan Elrod contributed two hits. Landon Cole added one hit.


Cartersville (15-3, 7-0) and Dalton (5-11, 1-6) will continue their Region 7-5A series on Friday at Richard Bell Field with a doubleheader at 5 p.m.



WOODLAND 8, MODEL 3


Ayden Ray

A five-run third inning jump-started Woodland on Wednesday night launching the Wildcats to a non-region 8-3 home win over the Model Blue Devils. 


Model led 2-1 in the middle of the second inning when the Wildcats posted their big inning with  two walks, two singles, and two doubles.


Woodland added on insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings as they outhit the Blue Devils ten to seven and took advantage of seven walks and four hit batsmen.


Logan Bentley (double, sac fly, RBI) and Ayden Ray (double, RBI) led the Wildcats with three hits. Joshua Hicks contributed two hits (double, two RBIs). Mason Williams and Conner Lujan added one hit. Jake Clowers had one RBI.


Zach Lambert (6 IP, 3R, 2ER, 7H, 1BB, 3K) collected the Woodland pitching win. Ray walked one and struck out one in the seventh inning.


The loss dropped Model to 12-5 on the season.


Woodland (10-7, 2-4) plays another non-region game at McEachern on Friday at 5:55 p.m.



CALHOUN 9, CASS 5

The Cass Colonels dropped their Region 7-5A opener with Calhoun on Wednesday 9-5 at the Cass Athletic Complex.


The Colonels led 5-1 after the first two innings but saw that lead slip away when the Yellow Jackets scored five times in the fourth inning. Calhoun added two more insurance runs in the sixth to secure their 9-5 win.


Calhoun outhit Cass, eleven to eight.


Hunter Lovett (4 IP, 7R, 6ER, 9H, 1BB, 4K) was saddled with the pitching loss for the Colonels. Jacob Johnson (2 IP, 2ER, 2H, 3BB) and Justin Peace (1 IP, 3BF) also pitched for Cass. 


Chase Tatum had three hits including one double and one RBI. Lovett (double, RBI) contributed two hits. Connor Jenkins (double, two RBIs), Nic Wright, and Jesiel Moctezuma added one hit.


Cass (11-7, 3-1) and Calhoun (5-11, 1-3) continue their series Thursday at Calhoun at 5:55 p.m. and will wrap it up on Friday at Cass at 5:55 p.m.



GORDON LEE 14, ADAIRSVILLE 1


The visiting Gordon Lee Trojans broke open a 1-1 game with seven runs in the top of the third inning Wednesday night at Adairsville en route to a 14-1 Region 6-AAA victory over the Tigers.


Gordon Lee added six more runs in the fourth inning in their five-inning win.


Dawson Craig (2.1 IP, 6R, 5ER, 3H, 5BB, 2K) made the pitching start for Adairsville and suffered the loss on the mound. K Coker (1.1 IP, 4ER, 3H, 1BB, 2K), Hudson Parr (0.1 IP, 4R, 0ER, 2H, 3BB), and Braxton Ryan (1 IP, 1K) also pitched for the Tigers.


Ryan had two hits including a double for the Adairsville offense. Peyton Bowen and Ryan Farr added one hit. Parr contributed one RBI.


Gordon Lee improved to 10-8 on the season and 4-0 in region play.


Adairsville (9-5, 2-2) hosts a home-and-home region series with LaFayette on Thursday and Friday. The Tigers host on Thursday and the Ramblers host on Friday. Both dates are 5:55 p.m. starts.
