Cartersville Hurricanes’ pitchers Nate Russell and Collier Jordan combined for seven strikeouts Tuesday evening and limited the Cass Colonels to only two hits in an 11-0 shutout in six innings at the Cass Athletic Complex.
Russell made the start and fanned six, yielding just one hit and five walks in the first five frames. Jordan allowed one hit and one walk with one strikeout in the sixth.
The Canes’ bats broke the game open in the top of the third inning with a six-run surge that included a three-run, two-out triple by David Vargas. Cartersville had three other hits in the inning, plus two walks, a hit batsman, and a sacrifice fly to build a 7-0 advantage.
Cass starting pitcher Landon Lamb (2.2 IP, 7ER, 6H, 4BB) was tagged with the loss. Andrew Ray (3 IP, 4R, 3ER, 4H, 4BB, 1K) and Easton Lee (0.1 IP, 0R, 1BB, 1K) pitched in relief for the Colonels.
James Manring led the Purple Hurricanes’ bats with four hits, including one double and two RBI. Vargas (triple, three RBI), Cole Crawford, Nolan Elrod, Cooper Reynolds, Tyler Hickman, and Gianni Gandy contributed one hit. Brayden Logan produced two RBI. Clint Hosea and Harris Turner each added one RBI.
Noah Rogers and Kasey Jacobs had one hit each for Cass.
Cartersville (6-7, 4-0 Region 7-AAAA) will host Cass (3-10, 0-4) for a doubleheader on Friday at 5 p.m. to complete the three-game series.
