Canes build early lead, cruise to first region win
Cartersville opened with eight runs in the first two innings, built a 10-0 lead, and cruised to an eventual 14-4 win Tuesday night at Hiram in Region 7-AAAAA action.
Every Hurricane position player saw action while Davis Williams and Paul Gamble hit their first career home runs. The Canes also took advantage of nine Hornets errors in the contest. Colt McKibben had two hits including a double and two RBIs for the Cartersville offense. Trey Holstein registered his first career hit with a triple and one RBI. Hank Smith contributed a double and two RBIs. Parker McPherson and Curt Bonner added one base hit each.
Micah Earwood (3 IP, 0R, 2H, 1BB, 3K), Silas Freeman (2 IP, 2R, 0ER, 1H, 4K), Gunner Millsap (1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 1BB, 3K), and Cal Goss (1 IP, 1ER, 0H, 1BB, 3K) combined to scatter just four hits, three walks, two earned runs, and totaled 13 strikeouts.
Fifth-ranked Cartersville (6-4, 1-0) and Hiram (2-6, 0-1) will continue their three-game series Friday at Richard Bell Field with a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
