Canes celebrate seniors in final home meet


Cartersville gymnastics seniors Annaston Wilson and Jayla Byrd were celebrated Saturday as the Canes hosted their final home meet of the season.

The Cartersville High School gymnastics team hosted its final home meet of the season last Saturday with Hurricanes taking the top three spots for All Around in Class 5A and under. The Cartersville team also placed second overall in the four-team event.


Cartersville (101.45 points) finished just behind North Oconee with 104.2 points.


The Cartersville team also celebrated its two seniors at the meet.


Senior Annaston Wilson placed second All Around with a score of 33.1 She placed second in beam with a qualifying score of 8.5.


Senior Jayla Byrd was third All Around with a score of 32.85. Byrd was fourth in vault with a qualifying score of 9.0.


The lone Canes junior, Karley Garrison, placed first All Around with a 35.50 score. She was first in beam (8.9) and floor (9.1). Garrison was also third in vault with a 9.20.


Next for the Purple Hurricanes is a trip to Lovett on Thursday.
