Canes clinch region title, complete sweep of Southeast Whitfield

The Cartersville Hurricanes continued their run through Region 7-AAAA on Friday with a pair of run-rule wins in a doubleheader at Southeast Whitfield in Dalton.


Cartersville won 15-0 in the first game on Friday and took the second game, 14-1. Friday’s two wins completed a three-game sweep of the Raiders. The Canes won 18-1 at home last Tuesday.


Along with other region outcomes this week, the Hurricanes' sweep of Southeast Whitfield enabled Cartersville to clinch the 2026 Region 7-AAAA title with three games remaining. 


Pitchers Logan Buchanan (2 IP,  0R, 2H, 0BB, 2K) and Collier Jordan (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 2K) blanked Southeast in the first game on Friday. Cole Crawford (2 IP, 1ER, 0H, 1BB, 3K), Brayden Logan (2 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 4K), and Wyatt Earwood (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 2K) took care of the pitching duties in the second game. 


Logan paced the Canes’ bats in the doubleheader with five hits, including two doubles, one sacrifice fly, and five RBI.


Nolan Elrod (home run, double, four RBI), Tyler Hickman (double, two RBI), Harris Turner (three RBI), and Crawford (double, sacrifice fly, five RBI) contributed three hits on Friday. Cooper Reynolds (three RBI) and Cooper Reynolds (home run, double, four RBI) each had two hits. Gianni Gandy (double, RBI) and Clint Hosea (sacrifice fly, two RBI) added one hit apiece.


Southeast Whitfield dropped to 2-25 overall and 1-17 in region games.


Cartersville (20-7, 18-0) leads Allatoona and Dalton by five games in the region standings. The Canes will wrap up region and regular season play next week in a three-game, home-and-home series with Dalton (17-8, 13-5). Cartersville will host a single game on Tuesday at 5:55 p.m. Dalton will host a doubleheader on Thursday, starting at 5 p.m.
