Canes complete series sweep of Buccaneers

The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes completed a three-game region series sweep at Allatoona on Saturday by winning both games of a doubleheader, 10-2 and 21-7.


In Saturday’s first game, the Canes broke open a 1-1 game with four runs in the top of the fifth inning and sealed it with five additional runs in the seventh.


In the second game, the host Buccaneers led 6-1 after two innings before Cartersville exploded for 20 runs over the next four innings, including ten runs in the sixth.


Nolan Elrod (6 IP, 2R, 1ER, 6H, 3BB, 5K) made a six-inning pitching start in the first game on Saturday and Wyatt Earwood (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 2K) closed out the final frame. Five pitchers made mound appearances in Game 2, including Tyler Hickman (0.0 IP, 3ER, 1H, 2BB), Coleman Stubblefield (1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 2H), Brayden Logan (1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 1BB, 2K), J.B. Nichols (2 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1BB, 2K), and Logan Buchanan (2 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 2K).


Three Canes each produced four hits in the doubleheader, including Logan (home run, six RBI), Cole Crawford (two doubles, five RBI), and David Vargas (three doubles, four RBI).  Elrod contributed three hits with one sacrifice fly and three RBI. 


Clint Hosea (two doubles, two RBI), Harris Turner (double, two RBI), Gianni Gandy (double, RBI), and Hickman had two hits for Cartersville. Devon Beavers hit a home run with three RBI. Ben Cagle (double) and James Manring (two RBI) each added one hit.


Allatoona dropped to 3-6 overall and 0-3 in Region 7-AAAA.


Cartersville (5-7, 3-0) visits Cass on Tuesday to begin a three-game region series. The Canes will host the Colonels for a doubleheader on Friday.
