Canes earn initial win, Wildcats fall in semifinals

The two local high school boys basketball teams in action Wednesday night split contests at the

Seven Hills Rotary / Rome News-Tribune Christmas Tournament at Georgia Highlands College. The Cartersville boys earned their first win of the season, while the Woodland boys dropped their semifinal game against Model.

 

CARTERSVILLE BOYS 71, DARLINGTON 49


The Purple Hurricanes picked up their initial win of the 2019-20 season Wednesday night by easing comfortably by Darlington 71-49 in a consolation game of the Seven Hills Rotary / Rome News-Tribune Christmas Tournament at Georgia Highlands College. Cartersville took a 22-10 lead after one quarter and extended the lead to 44-20 by halftime on their way to the 22-point win. Micah Tart scored 13 points for the Canes. Robert Novak and Kam Callahan finished with 11 each. Darlington fell to 4-6 on the season.

Cartersville (1-2) plays at Calhoun Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and hosts Woodland Saturday in a 4:30 p.m. tip.



MODEL 48, WOODLAND BOYS 22

In the semifinal round of the Seven Hills Rotary / Rome News-Tribune Christmas Tournament Wednesday night at Georgia Highlands College, Model improved to 7-3 on the season with a 48-22 win over Woodland.

The Blue Devils led 9-4 after one quarter, 21-4 at halftime and at one time held a 27-4 lead in the third quarter of the low scoring affair.

Model advances to play Coosa in the tournament finals Thursday. Woodland (2-7) will take on Pepperell in the third-place game Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Both games are at Berry College.
