Canes fall in region semifinals, play for third Friday
The Cartersville boys basketball team dropped a 69-25 decision to top-seeded Hiram Wednesday night in the Region 7-AAAAA semifinals at Calhoun High School.
Hiram led 29-13 at the intermission and built on their advantage in the second half.
Chase Tyler and Amir Taylor led the Hornets with 14 points each.
Jamauri Brice scored 10 points for Cartersville. Kam Callahan added eight.
Hiram advances to the region championship game Friday night against host Calhoun. The Yellow Jackets defeated Blessed Trinity 60-54 in the other semifinal Wednesday.
Cartersville (11-13) will play for third place Friday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. against Blessed Trinity at Calhoun. Wednesday's loss also means the Canes will open the Class AAAAA state playoffs next Wednesday on the road.
