Canes golf team finishes third at Class 5A State Championship


The Cartersville High boys golf team finished third at the 2022 GHSA Class 5A State Championships.


The 36-hole tournament was conducted at the 6,700-yard, par-72 Okefenokee Country Club in Blackshear.


The Canes shot 296 Monday and 311 Tuesday for a 607 (31-over-par) total.


Starr’s Mill won the Class 5A championship with an impressive 578 (2-over-par) total. Wayne County was second at 599 (23-over-par).


Woodward Academy (+32) and Northgate (+33) rounded out the top five teams.


Jake Lawson (71-75, +2) placed ninth individually to lead Cartersville. Jake Wehunt tied for 21st (73-81, +10). Camden Meadows (75-80, +11) and Andrew Lutjens (77-78, +11) tied for 24th. Brody Tidwell (77-79, +12) tied for 26th and Anderson McCary (86-79, +21) was 40th in the 79 player field.
