Canes' gymnastics team first at Lovett; Garrison secures GHSA Preliminary Meet bid
The Cartersville High gymnastics team captured the top three places in All-Around and placed first in the Class 5A and under division Monday night at Lovett. Cartersville finished with 97.35 points followed by the host Lions with 89.8.
Annaston Wilson, a senior, placed third in All-Around with a score of 29.3. She was second in vault and third in bars with scores of 8.4 and 6.0.
Fellow senior Jayla Byrd placed second in All-Around with a score of 35.8. Byrd was second in vault and bars scoring 8.4 and 7.0. She was third in beam and floor scoring 8.05 and 8.8.
Junior Karley Garrison secured her bid to the GHSA Gymnastics Preliminary Meet in April with an All-Around first place score of 35.8. She was second among all competitors in all classifications at the meet. Garrison placed first in all events with individual qualifying scores of 9.2 in vault, 9.2 on beam, and 9.3 on floor exercise.
The Canes gymnasts host their next meet Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Cartersville Twisters Gym. The team will be recognizing their two seniors at the meet.
