Canes hold on for win over Central-Carroll

The Cartersville boys held off a fourth quarter rally by Central-Carroll Tuesday night at The Storm Center to defeat the visiting Lions by two points in Region 5-AAAA action. The Lady Canes had a more difficult evening against the 8th-ranked Lady Lions.

After trailing 13-12 at the end of the first quarter, the Hurricanes took leads of 24-19 at halftime and 40-29 through three quarters before holding off a late run by Central-Carroll for a 50-48 Region 5-AAAA win. Micah Tart and Kolbe Benham led the scoring for Cartersville with 12 points each. Kyler Johnson tossed in seven. Amarai Orr and Robert Novak chipped in six each. Kam Callahan contributed four, Marquail Coaxum two, and Manny Hayes one point for the Canes. Camden McClure led the visiting Lions with 17 points. Jayden Green followed with 13 and Trey Powell scored nine for Central-Carroll (11-10, 2-6). Cartersville (6-10, 2-6) will host LaGrange Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and travel to Class AAAA top-ranked Sandy Creek for a 4 p.m. tip on Saturday. CENTRAL-CARROLL 47, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 27 The Lady Canes trailed 33-11 by halftime and 42-18 after three quarters Tuesday night in a 47-27 home loss to 8th-ranked Central-Carroll. Nyah Houston paced the Lady Lions with 15 points. Rachel Wilson and Ariel Johnson followed with nine each for Central (18-3, 7-1 Region 5-AAAA). Kierra Milline and Miya Moore led Cartersville with five points each. Milline finished with six rebounds. Cartersville (8-12, 1-7) entertains LaGrange Friday night at The Storm Center at 6 p.m. and travels to Sandy Creek Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. start.
