Canes soccer falls at Woodward Academy

The Cartersville boys soccer team had their season come to an end Wednesday night in the GHSA Class 5A state quarterfinals with a 6-1 loss at Woodward Academy.

The host War Eagles led 2-0 early and 2-1 at halftime. Joel Zazueta scored the Cartersville goal in about the 37th minute. Woodward Academy put the game away in the second half with four unanswered goals. The War Eagles (16-2-1) advance to the state semifinals and will play Starr’s Mill who edged Johnson-Gainesville Wednesday night, 2-1. The Hurricanes’ season ends with a 10-6-1 mark.
