Canes sweep; Wildcats, Colonels earn region doubleheader splits

Cartersville softball swept a Region 7-AAAAA doubleheader with Hiram Thursday night while Woodland split a doubleheader with Calhoun and Cass split games with Blessed Trinity.


WOODLAND 1, CALHOUN 0

Michiah Hicks had four hits in the Lady Cats' doubleheader split Thursday night with Calhoun.

Woodland pitcher, Lainey Baker, struck out 14 while scattering four hits and one walk in a 1-0 shutout victory over visiting Calhoun Thursday.

Baker dominated the zone from the pitching circle with 73 of her 100 pitches for strikes.

The game’s only run scored in the bottom of the second inning when Woodland’s Jessica Ryan doubled home Peyton Dorn.

Ryan finished with two hits as did Michiah Hicks. Jordan Hammonds, Alana Carnes, and Baker added one hit each for the Lady Cats.


CALHOUN 8, WOODLAND 1

Scoring eight runs across the final two innings in Thursday night’s second game at Woodland, Calhoun defeated the Lady Cats 8-1.

The Yellow Jackets scored three times in the top of the sixth and added five more runs in the final frame.

Michiah Hicks had two hits for Woodland including a triple. Cassie Jones and Jessica Ryan added one hit each. Dylynn Motes contributed one RBI with a sacrifice fly.

Following the doubleheader split, Calhoun is now 8-8 overall and 6-2 in Region 7-AAAAA.

Woodland (5-10-2, 4-5) will play Cartersville at 11 a.m. Saturday in the opening round of the Bartow County Championship Tournament at the Cass High School Athletic Complex.


CARTERSVILLE 9, HIRAM 1

Cartersville pitcher, McKinley Chada, tossed a two-hitter in Thursday night’s first game at Atco Park as the Lady Canes beat visiting Hiram in six innings, 9-1.

Chada walked one and struck out five while earning the pitching win.

Layne Callan and Ava Perkins both had three hits to lead the Hurricanes’ offense. Callan drove in two runs. Perkins’ hits included a double and one RBI.

Mikey Lewis (2 RBIs) and Campbell Rogers (RBI) finished with two hits each. Amelia Elrod (RBI) and Jordan Bishop added one hit apiece.


CARTERSVILLE 11, HIRAM 1

Kennedy Stevens struck out four in the Hurricanes' Game 2 win Thursday night.

In Thursday night’s second game, the Hurricanes took down the Hornets 11-1 in five innings.

Cartersville pitcher Kennedy Stevens limited Hiram to only two hits and three walks while fanning four.

Taff Bradley (double, 2 RBIs), Layne Callan (RBI), Jordan Bishop (RBI), Ava Perkins (RBI), McKinley Chada (RBI), and Mikey Lewis all had one hit each for the Canes. Kiley Arnold and Amelia Elrod added one RBI each.

Hiram falls to 1-9 for the season and is now 0-5 in Region 7-AAAAA.

Cartersville (8-7, 4-4) plays Woodland Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cass in the first round of the Bartow County Championship Tournament.


BLESSED TRINITY 7, CASS 4

Cass held a 3-2 lead heading to the fourth inning, but the visiting Lady Titans scored five runs over the next two frames to defeat the Lady Colonels in Thursday’s first game, 7-4.

Cass out hit Blessed Trinity eight to five, but also committed five errors contributing to six unearned runs.

Rachael Lee suffered the pitching loss allowing just one earned run on five hits and four walks. Lee struck out three.

Alexis Woods had four hits to lead the Cass offense. Rachael Lee had two hits and drove in three runs. Saydee Najarro and Kelly Young contributed one hit each. Eryn Lee had one RBI.



CASS 13, BLESSED TRINITY 1


Catcher Saydee Najarro had three hits in the Colonels' doubleheader Thursday night with Blessed Trinity. Cass split the two games with the Titans.

The Cass bats pounded out a dozen hits in just four innings in Thursday night’s second game at the Cass Athletic Complex as the Lady Colonels topped Blessed Trinity, 13-1.

Cass scored in each frame building a 5-1 lead through three innings and then ended the contest early by scoring eight times in the fourth inning.

Alexis Woods (4 IP, 1ER, 6H, 0BB, 0K) picked up the pitching win for the Colonels working all four innings in the circle.

Woods (3 RBIs), Darianna Sosa (triple, 2 RBIs), Rachael Lee (2 RBIs), and Saydee Najarro had two hits each for Cass. Reese Howard (double, RBI), Ansley Hight (RBI), Eryn Lee, and Kelly Young added one hit apiece. Haylee Dishmon drove in one run.

The doubleheader split leaves Blessed Trinity with a 7-4 record overall and now 5-1 in Region 7-AAAAA.

Cass (5-6, 3-5) will square off with Adairsville Saturday at 9 a.m. in the opening round of the Bartow County Championship Tournament.
