Canes take victory over Woodland, finish a three-game sweep


Cartersville pitchers Phillip Schiltz (4 IP, 0R, 2H, 5K) and Geoffrey Gore (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 2K) combined for seven strikeouts and yielded just two hits Friday night in a Canes’ 10-0 five-inning win at Woodland.


The win completed a three-game series sweep for the Canes over the Wildcats and kept Cartersville unbeaten through six games in Region 7-5A play.


Cartersville raced to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning and later added a run in the third, two in the fourth, and three more in the fifth inning while pounding out 11 hits.


Luke Miller (double, RBI), Ian McNair-Siegler (RBI), and Miles Owen had two hits each for the Hurricanes. Caleb Daniel, Landon Cole (RBI), Cameron Cochran (double, RBI), Kaden Stephenson (RBI), and Paul Gamble contributed one hit each. Harrison Childers (sac fly) drove in two runs.


Woodland utilized a trio of pitchers. Ayden Ray (1.1 IP, 4R, 3ER, 3H, 3BB) started on the mound and was tagged with the loss. Zach Lambert (2.2 IP, 5ER, 6H, 0BB, 3K) and Hunter Shirley (1 IP, 1ER, 2H, 2BB, 2K) pitched in relief for the Wildcats.


Woodland (8-10, 3-3) begins a three-game region series with Hiram Tuesday on the Hornets’ home field at 5:55 p.m. The Wildcats will host Thursday and return to Hiram on Friday night.


Cartersville (14-2, 6-0) plays a three-game region series with Dalton next week. The Hurricanes visit the Catamounts Tuesday at 5:55 p.m. before hosting Dalton Wednesday. The final game of the series will be at Dalton on Friday.
