Canes, Tigers, and Colonels collect region wins

A seven-run first inning and a 13-0 lead through three innings launched the top-ranked Purple Hurricanes to a 13-3 win over Woodland Tuesday night at Richard Bell Field.
Five walks, an error, and a grand slam home run by Tristan McKibben produced the Canes first inning runs.
Ryan Johnson (3 IP, 0R, 2H, 0BB, 2K) made the pitching start for Cartersville and collected the win. Dawson Bishop (1 IP, 1R, 0ER, 0H, 0BB, 1K) and Nicholas Hruby (1 IP, 2ER, 2H, 1BB, 1K) worked one inning each for the Canes.
Logan Bentley (5 BF, 5ER, 0H, 5BB) was the losing pitcher for Woodland. JD Trail (1.1 IP, 6ER, 5H, 1BB, 1K), Connor Stermer (0.2 IP, 2ER, 1H, 2BB), and Lucas Baker (2 IP, 0R, 3H, 1BB, 3K) also pitched for the Wildcats.
Ayden Ray (double, two RBIs), Mason Williams, Baker, and Jake Clowers had one hit each for Woodland.
McKibben had two hits including his homer. Andrew Purdy (two RBIs) also homered. Landon Cole (RBI), Cole Crawford (RBI), Charlie Rothschild (RBI), Nolan Elrod (RBI), Hayden James, and Caleb Daniel (double) added one hit for the Hurricanes.
Class 5A top-ranked Cartersville improved to 14-3 overall and 4-0 in Region 7-5A.
Woodland falls to 9-6 and 2-2 in region action.
The series moves to Woodland on Thursday and will conclude on Friday at Cartersville. Both games are scheduled for 5:55 p.m. starts.
ADAIRSVILLE 10, RIDGELAND 0
The Adairsville Tigers rattled off ten hits, got a shutout pitching performance, and finished the visiting Ridgeland Panthers 10-0 in five innings Tuesday night in Region 6-AAA baseball action.
Pitcher Jack Nelson allowed no runs and only two hits to blank Ridgeland. He struck out seven of the 18 batters he faced. On offense he hit a leadoff home run in the fourth inning.
The Tigers scored single runs in the first two innings followed by five in the third, two in the fourth, and one more run in the fifth inning to end the game by run rule.
Peyton Bowen (double, two RBIs), Jarrett Scott (RBI), Hudson Parr, and Easton Elrod had two hits. Landon O’Neal added one hit.
Adairsville (8-3, 1-0) will play at Ridgeland (9-2, 0-1) to complete the home-and-home series on Thursday at 5:55 p.m.
CASS 5, DALTON 4
The Colonels held off a seventh inning threat by the Catamounts on Tuesday night at Dalton to win their Region 7-5A opener, 5-4.
Cass led 4-0 in the middle of the fourth inning but the Catamounts hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth and scored two more runs in the fifth inning to cut the Colonels’ lead to 4-3.
Cayden Roberts doubled home a Cass insurance run in the top of the seventh for a 5-3 lead and although he yielded a run, reliever Jacob Johnson got a fly out to center field to end a final inning threat.
Hunter Lovett made the pitching start for the Colonels and went 5-⅔ innings. He allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and no walks while striking out six. Johnson (1.1 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1BB, 1K) was credited with a save.
Chase Tatum had two hits for the Cass offense. Trenton Payne (RBI), Nic Wright, and Roberts (RBI) added one hit.
Cass (9-6, 1-0) and Dalton (5-8, 1-3) will continue their series Wednesday back in Dalton and will play the third game on Thursday at Cass.
