Canes, Tigers notch Top Ten finishes in 2022-23 GADA Directors Cup race


The 2022-23 Georgia High School Association athletic calendar has ended, and a pair of local high schools have claimed Top Ten finishes in their respective Georgia Athletic Directors Cup standings.


Cartersville High placed seventh overall in Class AAAAA while Adairsville finished ninth in Class AAA.


The GADA Regions Bank Directors Cup scores each school’s best eight finishes for girls’ and boys’ sports. Beginning this year, only schools with a current GADA member were included in the all-sports competition.


In Class AAA, Wesleyan won the Directors Cup title with 1,429 total points. Oconee County (1,318) was runner-up and Savannah Christian (1,035) placed third.


Adairsville’s ninth place overall finish of 683 points, included a fifth place finish by the Adairsville boys and a 16th place finish by the Adairsville girls.


According to the GADA website, the Tigers and Lady Tigers received points for the following finishes in state playoffs:

5th — Boys Swimming

8th — Cheerleading

9th — Volleyball

9th — Football

9th — Girls Basketball

9th — Boys Basketball

9th — Boys Tennis

9th —Baseball

9th — Wrestling-Duals

9th — Girls Soccer

15th — Boys Cross Country

17th — Boys Soccer

27th — Girls Track and Field

*State placement but not among the school’s best eight finishes. Note: Adairsville was the only school in Region 6-AAA with an active member of GADA.


Cambridge won Class AAAAA with 1,254 points. McIntosh (1,229) was the overall runner-up and Greenbrier (1,111) placed third.


Cartersville was seventh overall with 851 points. Woodland (441) was 24th overall and Cass (373) finished 26th in the overall standings.


The overall finishes for the other three schools in Region 7-AAAAA included Calhoun (8th, 841), Dalton (11th, 812), and Hiram (36th, 206).


In girls’ sports, the Lady Canes (451) were 9th in the classification and had the best finish among schools in 7-5A. The remainder of the region girls’ standings included Calhoun (14th, 402), Dalton (16th, 347), Woodland (24th, 195), Cass (27th, 152), and Hiram (32nd, 124).


Dalton (6th, 465) led the boys’ standings in Region 7-5A followed by Calhoun (8th, 439), Cartersville (11th, 400), Woodland (23rd, 246), Cass (24th, 221), and Hiram (37th, 82).


According to the GADA website, the local schools in Class AAAAA received points for the following finishes in state playoffs:
