Canes top Catamounts for third straight win; Woodland improves to 3-0

The Cartersville Hurricanes improved to 3-1 on the season Friday night with a 68-49 win at the Storm Center over Dalton.
Kam Callahan scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Canes. Jaeden Scott and Romo Pace followed with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Cartersville led 21-15 after the opening eight minutes and extended their lead to 34-29 by halftime. Dalton cut the lead to 51-45 by the end of the third quarter before Cartersville pulled away in the final period for a 19-point win.
Anthony Dans led the visiting Catamounts with 13 points. Will Haley scored 11 for Dalton (0-1).
Cartersville travels to Cedartown Saturday. The Lady Canes will tip at 1:30 followed by the Canes and Bulldogs at 3 p.m.
WOODLAND BOYS 51, PEPPERELL 43
The Woodland boys basketball team remained unbeaten to start the 2021-22 season Friday night with a 51-43 win at Pepperell.
The Wildcats held slim leads at the end of the first three periods and held on in the fourth quarter for an eight-point win.
Woodland led 18-14 at the end of the first quarter; 23-19 at the intermission; and 37-34 heading into the final period.
Diaz Garrett led the Wildcats with 17 points and added five assists. Jayden Hames followed with 13 points. Harlin Morris pulled down eight rebounds and had seven points. Brelace Williams finished with seven rebounds, six points, and three assists.
Kalvarri Smith led Pepperell (0-3) with 11 points.
Woodland (3-0) hosts Bremen Saturday in a 1 p.m. start.
ALEXANDER 66, CASS BOYS 37
The Cass boys fell behind 21-12 in the first quarter Friday night at Alexander and never recovered in a 66-37 loss in Douglasville.
The host Cougars extended their lead to 37-19 by halftime and led 61-30 heading into the final eight minutes.
Alexander improved to 3-0 with their victory.
Cass (2-3) will look to snap a two-game skid at Heritage-Conyers Tuesday night.
