Canes win Wire2Wire Invitational at Dellinger Park


The Cartersville boys cross country team won the 16-team Wire2Wire Invitational Saturday at Dellinger Park. The Woodland boys placed fourth and the Cass boys finished ninth.


Stockbridge was the boys’ race runner-up team. Calhoun was third and Dalton fifth.


In the girls' race won by Central-Carroll, the Woodland girls finished fourth and the Cartersville girls were fifth of nine scoring teams. The Dalton girls finished runner-up and the Rome girls were third.


The Cartersville boys were paced by Malachi Vosburgh (16:12) and Barrett Stepp (16:43) who ran to second and fifth-place finishes individually. Landon McSwain (16:37) paced the Wildcats with a fourth-place run.


Casey Thornton of Central-Carroll won the boys’ race besting 107 other runners in the field with a time of 16:07.


Other top runners for Cartersville included Kaleb Lanier (12th, 17:25), Hayden Mitchell (17th, 17:43), Carson Robinson (19th, 17:48), Tripp Chitwood (23rd, 18:05), and Micah Sanders (25th, 18:09).


Top placers for Woodland were Andy Forsyth (9th, 16:54), Juan Mendoza (10th, 17:06), Knox Koontz (34th, 18:25), Will Parker (48th, 18:54), and Connor Smith (70th, 20:09).


The top Cass boys were Critton Gearhart (16th, 17:39), Leonardo Galeana (51st, 19:00), Adam Brush (55th, 19:14), Sawyer Foy (59th, 19:37), and Benny Flores (60th, 19:39).


Lucy Barker of Central-Carroll won the girls’ race in 19:39.


Top placers for Woodland included Olivia Berry (8th, 21:29), Miranda Pelow (10th, 21:39), Abby George (16th, 22:29), Addison Brown (22nd, 22:45), and Lily Hiott (47th, 24:32).


The best runs for Cartersville included Kylie Ham (11th, 21:53), Hadley Finnemore (35th, 24:07), Margherita Miniati (38th, 24:15), Helen Leaming (45th, 24:23), and Vivi Vest (48th, 24:45).


Next on the Cartersville and Woodland schedules is the Wingfoot XC Classic next Friday at Sam Smith Park.
