Cartersville 12U Gold plays for GRPA District 5 title

The Cartersville Gold 12U baseball team will continue a winner-take-all championship game on Wednesday night at the GRPA District 5 Tournament at Calhoun Park.


Cartersville 12U Gold was leading Summerville 3-0 in the second inning on Tuesday night when the game was suspended.


Cartersville 12U Gold went 4-0 to reach the championship round, with wins over Calhoun, Whitfield County, Dalton, and Rome. Cartersville then fell to Summerville in the first championship round game, 6-4.


Summerville lost its tournament opener to Dalton last Thursday, but won five-straight elimination games to reach Wednesday’s winner-take-all finale.


In last Saturday’s 17-5 win for Cartersville Gold over Dalton, Blake Adams (two RBI), Jackson Taylor (RBI), and Henry Baxter (RBI) led the offense with two hits. Tyson Botts (three RBI), Cale Effler (three RBI), Shep Taylor (RBI), and Brennan Simmer each added one hit. Parson Adams and Raden Sullins had one RBI. Shep Taylor pitched 2-2/3 innings on the mound for Cartersville with five strikeouts.


In Monday’s 11-1 win over Rome, Parson Adams had two hits and one RBI. Tyson Botts (two RBI), Hudson Summey (two RBI), Shep Taylor (RBI), Cale Effler (RBI), Henry Baxter (RBI), and Brennan Simmer had one hit. Raden Sullins had two RBI, and Noah Taylor added one RBI. Tyson Botts tossed a five-inning, one-hitter with two strikeouts.


In Tuesday’s 6-4 loss to Summerville, Henry Baxter had two hits. Tyson Botts (RBI), Jackson Taylor (RBI), Parson Adams, Brennan Simmer, and Hudson Summey posted one hit. Raden Sullins contributed one RBI. 



BARTOW COUNTY 10U FACES ELIMINATION GAMES


The Bartow County 10U baseball team is 3-1 through Tuesday’s games at the GRPA District 5 Tournament at Alto Park in Rome. The tournament, which started on Monday, will continue through the championship round on Friday in Rome.


Bartow County 10U has wins over Dalton (13-3), Whitfield County (11-2), and Calhoun (12-5). Bartow’s loss was 4-3 to Cedartown. 


Through their first four games, Maddox Whittle has four hits and two RBI for Bartow 10U. Jett Thompson (RBI), Benton Owen (two RBI), Grayson Neighbors (two RBI), and Everett Neighbors have three hits. Wyatt Huskins (three RBI), Asher Hooper (RBI), and Rhett Adams (three RBI) contributed two hits. Chapman Perry added one hit and one RBI.


Adams and Perry each have four strikeouts in 1-2/3 innings on the mound. Gamble Mealor has three strikeouts in 1-2/3 innings. Mason Brookshire has three strikeouts across 2-2/3 innings, and Wyatt Huskins has two strikeouts in two innings of work.


Bartow County 10U plays an elimination game on Wednesday night against Summerville and needs three consecutive elimination game wins to reach the championship round.


Cartersville Gold 10U finished the tournament with a 2-2 record. Cartersville Gold had wins over Calhoun (7-4) and LaFayette (16-7), with losses to Rockmart Gold (19-2) and Trion (7-6).


Tres Taylor (three RBI) and River Hicks (two RBI) led the Cartersville Gold offense with four hits across their four games. Braxton McDaniel (two RBI), Raylon Wright (four RBI), Maddux Frazier (four RBI), and Nate Bell each had three hits. Brantley Dietze and Ben Robinson contributed two hits and one RBI. Aiden Waits added one hit and two RBI. Bell was the top Cartersville pitcher in the tournament with six strikeouts in three innings.



CARTERSVILLE 8U COACH-PITCH IN ELIMINATION BRACKET


The Cartersville Gold 8U Coach-Pitch team enters play on Wednesday at the GRPA District 5 Tournament at Edwards Park with a 2-1 record. Cartersville has wins over Bartow County (15-0) and Murray County (10-1), with a loss to Summerville (22-13).


Cartersville plays Trion on Wednesday night in an elimination game and will need five straight wins to capture the tournament title.


Bartow County was eliminated last Friday with a 16-8 loss to Dalton.
