Cartersville 8U Rookie League team wins Northwest Sectional title
The Cartersville Little League Baseball Rookie League team suffered an opening-round loss last Saturday at the double-elimination Northwest Georgia Sectional tournament in Cobb County. Still, it bounced back to win four straight games in capturing the 2023 Section championship.
Georgia Little League Baseball establishes the Rookie League level for seven and eight year olds. Cartersville's first-round loss was 11-4 to Smyrna Blue. The locals reeled off back-to-back wins over Smyrna Blue on Sunday and Monday (10-2 and 13-5) before sweeping Peachtree City 12-2 and 7-2 in the Northwest Section championship round this past Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Cartersville Rookie team advances to the Georgia Little League Rookie state tournament June 16-18 at Warner Robins American Little League. The team roster includes Wheeler Arthur, Tyson Botts, Caleb Cox, Will Geldhauser, Jonah Holder, Caswell McFarland, Will Porter, Jayden Rodriguez, Finley Rogan, Jackson Taylor, Josh Villarreal, and Tripp Walker.
Bryan Villarreal is the Cartersville manager with assistant coaches Clayton Porter and Blake Arthur.
