Cartersville boys 2nd at Mustang Stampede; Woodland teams place third at Run at the Rock

The Woodland High School cross country teams hosted the 18th annual Run at the Rock on Saturday and the Wildcats and Lady Cats both placed third.


The boys' varsity race included 19 teams and 151 runners. The varsity girls' race included 14 teams and 94 competitors.


East Paulding won the boys' team race with Southeast Whitfield runner-up. The Cass boys placed seventh and the Adairsville boys team was 12th.


The King’s Academy was the team winner of the girls' race with East Paulding as runner-up. 


Woodland’s Juan Mendoza won the boys individual title in 17:18. He was followed by teammates Will Parker (20th, 19:00), James Morris (24th, 19:10), Conner Cruz (45th, 20:04), and Gabe Hardin (56th, 20:23).


Allison Snead led the Lady Cats with a third place finish individually in 21:53. Woodland’s other top finishers were Miranda Pelow (6th, 22:23), Addison Brown (17th, 23:49), Abby George (35th, 25:45), and Sophia St. James (37th, 25:47).


The top runners for the Cass boys were Leonardo Galeana (32nd, 19:33), Booker Gearhart (35th, 19:40), Jordan Russell (48th, 20:06), Sawyer Foy (53rd, 20:20), and Cristian Lenhart (65th, 20:33).


The Adairsville boys' top performers were Griffin Bozeman (15th, 18:43), Johnathan Ringwell (23rd, 19:08), Aaron Souders (91st, 21:33), Canyon East (126th, 24:04), and Owen Kelly (130th, 24:15).


The Adairsville girls and Cass girls teams did not field a full team but had individual competitors. Fernanda Singer placed 30th in 25:15 and Charley Doyle of Cass was 54th in 28:17.


Adairsville will run again on Tuesday at the Rocky Face Ridge Race in Dalton. Woodland will run on Saturday at the Wire to Wire Invitational hosted by Cartersville while Cass is off until September 28 at the Darlingon XC Festival.




CANES RUNNER-UP, LADY CANES FIFTH AT MUSTANG STAMPEDE


The Cartersville cross country teams were in action on Saturday morning at the 9th Annual Mustang Stampede hosted by Kennesaw Mountain High School.


The Cartersville boys finished runner-up to champion West Forsyth and the Cartersville girls finished fifth.


The West Forsyth boys had five of the top seven finishers in the race which included 15 teams and 136 competitors. The West Forsyth girls finished ahead of St. Pius, Wesleyan, and Cherokee.


Top performances for the Lady Canes included Sofia Burns (3rd, 19:06), Kylie Ham (24th, 21:14), Genevieve Alessandro (46th, 22:41), Jordan Hathaway (47th, 22:46), and Hadley Finnemore (48th, 22:46).


Top runners for the Hurricanes were Barrett Stepp (8th, 16:10), Will Feuerbach (19th, 16:40), Kaleb Lanier (26th, 16:59), Hayden Mitchell (27th, 17:05), and Carson Robinson (31st, 17:15). Kyle Camper II (32nd, 17:18), Ethan Empie (36th, 17:25), and Tripp Chitwood (38th, 17:32) also eclipsed the 18-minute mark for Cartersville.


The Canes and Lady Canes host the Wire to Wire Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 14).




EXCEL RUNNERS COMPETE AT HORIZON CHRISTIAN FALL XC INVITATIONAL


The Excel Eagles did field enough runners to post a team score but had four competitors Saturday at the Horizon Christian Fall Cross Country Invitational in Cumming.


Hugo Jara (18th, 21:25), Raul Vazquez (21st, 21:53), Kasen Higginbotham (28th, 23:16), and Hunter Jumper (40th, 27:09) represented the Eagles.


Excel is scheduled next for the Bobby Scott Cross Country Invitational in Johns Creek on September 26.
