Cartersville boys win region title; three other local teams advance to the state playoffs

The Cartersville boys won the Region 7-5A championship tournament on Thursday with a victory over Calhoun in the finals. Dalton finished third and Woodland fourth to advance to the GHSA Class 5A playoffs.
Brock Wilson won 6-1, 6-1 on Line 1 and Jack Minhinett won 6-2, 6-4 at Line 2 singles for the Hurricanes in the final match. Chandler Mathison and Julian Cline won the third Cartersville point with a victory at Line 2 doubles.
The Cartersville girls finished third behind region champ Dalton and runner-up Calhoun. The Lady Canes took the third-place match over Hiram by forfeit.
The Cartersville boys will host a state tournament first-round match next week against the No. 4 seed from Region 6-5A.
The Woodland boys will play at the Region 6-5A champion and the Cartersville girls will travel to the No. 2 seed from Region 6-5A.
ADAIRSVILLE BOYS ADVANCE The Adairsville boys finished fourth in the Region 6-3A tournament in Dalton and will advance to the Class 3A state playoffs next week. The Tigers will play at Region 7-3A champ Wesleyan.
