Cartersville completes series sweep of Woodland

Landon Cole had two hits including one double and two RBIs in Saturday's 8-3 win over Woodland.

Cartersville right fielder and leadoff hitter Luke Miller hit a pair of solo home runs and shortstop Aidan Larkin hit a two-run homer on Saturday afternoon as No. 1-ranked Cartersville completed a three-game series sweep of Woodland with an 8-3 victory at Richard Bell Field.


Miller’s first home run gave the Canes a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. The second home run tied the score 3-3 after the Wildcats had taken a 3-2 lead. Larkin’s blast in the bottom of the sixth inning put the Hurricanes up 8-3.


The Canes’ offense outhit Woodland thirteen to two.


Three Cartersville pitchers limited the Wildcats’ bats. Logan Shrewsbury made the start and went 3-⅓ innings. He allowed three earned runs — all in the fourth inning — on one hit and three walks. 


Nicholas Hruby collected the pitching win by working 2-⅔ innings in relief. He allowed no runs on one hit and one walk while striking out three of ten batters he faced. Andrew Purdy closed out a scoreless seventh inning on the mound. He yielded no hits and one walk.


Caleb Daniel had three hits for the Purple Hurricanes. Landon Cole (double, two RBIs) and Tristan McKibben (triple, RBI) contributed two hits. Purdy (double, RBI), Cameron Cochran, and Turner Abernathy added one hit. 


Austin Daves (5 IP, 6ER, 10H, 1BB, 4K) suffered the pitching loss for Woodland. Ayden Ray (1 IP, 2ER, 3H, 0BB, 1K) also pitched for the Wildcats.


Logan Bentley (RBI) and Jake Clowers had one hit. Mason Williams and Jonathan Ryan drove in one run.


Woodland (9-7, 2-4) hosts McEachern on Tuesday at 5:55 p.m.


Cartersville (14-3, 6-0) begins a three-game region series with Dalton at home on Tuesday at 5:55 p.m.
