Cartersville cross country teams compete at OrthoWest Invitational; Woodland hosts annual Run at the Rock

The Cartersville girls placed fifth of 29 teams in the Class 4A-6A Division, and the Cartersville boys were eighth on Saturday at the OrthoWest Invitational held on the state championship meet course at Carrollton High School.


Sofia Burns (12th, 21:42) led the Lady Canes, followed by Zoe McCurry (30th, 22:35), Adalin Empie (33rd, 22:37), Sydney Burris (41st, 22:58), and Genevieve Alessandro (67th, 23:42).


Ethan Empie (34th, 18:20) was fastest for the Hurricanes in the boys’ race. He was followed by teammates Tripp Chitwood (48th, 18:33), Kaleb Lanier (66th, 19:00), Carson Robinson (67th, 19:00), and Malachi Weir (74th, 19:07).


The 4A-6A division included 241 girls and 335 boys.



WOODLAND HOSTS 19TH RUN AT THE ROCK


The Woodland girls were third of eight teams, and the Woodland boys placed fifth on Saturday at the 19th Run at the Rock Cross Country Invitational on the Woodland campus.


Allison Snead of Woodland placed third individually in 21:40 to pace the Lady Cats. She was followed by Rylee Maxwell (8th, 23:00), Addison Brown (13th, 23:33), Lily Hiott (42nd, 27:12), and Sierra Woodie (43rd, 27:13).


North Paulding won the girls’ division. The King’s Academy was runner-up. Paulding County and Kell finished fourth and fifth, respectively. 


Cass did not field a full team, but individuals Karishma Archarya (29th, 25:54), Peyton Waldrop (65th, 32:21), Irelynn Wilmot (74th, 38:37), and Addelynn Wilson (75th, 39:41) recorded times for the Lady Colonels.


The Woodland boys finished fourth behind North Paulding, Kennesaw Mountain, and Paulding County. Cass was tenth of 14 teams. The boys’ race included 144 runners.


Jonathan Ringwell (5th, 17:54) led the Wildcats. He was followed by teammates James Morris (11th, 18:16), Charlie Hennington (29th, 19:28), Logan Marr (36th, 19:50) and Conner Cruz (38th, 19:53).


The top runners for Cass were Nicholas Robinson (17th, 18:49), Booker Gearheart (18th, 18:50), Adam Brush (53rd, 20:26), Gavin Misztak (108th, 24:05), and Jonathan Fuenter (111th, 25:16).


Cartersville will host the 24-team Wire2Wire XC Invitational on Saturday. Adairsville and Woodland will also participate. The next race for Cass is the Wingfoot XC Classic at Sam Smith Park in Cartersville on September 20.
