Cartersville cross country teams sweep Wire2Wire Invitational

The Cartersville High School cross country teams hosted and won the Wire2Wire XC Invitational on Thursday at Dellinger Park, with nine girls’ teams and 17 boys’ teams participating.
The Lady Canes outran Riverwood by seven points and Rome by ten to take the title. The Canes outdistanced Kennesaw Mountain by 30 points and Providence Christian Academy by 67 points.
Sydney Burris led the Cartersville girls with a fourth-place finish in 22:07. Sofia Burns (5th, 22:19) and Kylie Ham (9th, 22:53) also finished in the top ten. The Lady Canes received scoring runs from Kyla Poole (20th, 24:15) and Ella Daniel (21st, 24:48). Jordan Hathaway (28th, 25:23) and Adalin Empie (43rd, 26:41) also ran for Cartersville.
Ethan Empie (1st, 16:58) and Carson Robinson (2nd, 17:36) took the top two individual spots in the boys’ race. Other Canes’ results included Brock Morris (10th, 18:31), Knox Matthews (12th, 18:38), Malachi Weir (13th, 18:47), Jonnathan Carrera-Rios (18th, 19:15), and Ben Russell (20th, 19:20).
The next meet for the Cartersville teams is the OrthoWest Invitational in Carrollton on September 12.
