Cartersville edges Bartow to reach finals of District 1 Little League 8-10 year old tourney


The Cartersville Little League baseball 8-10 year old tournament team held on to defeat Bartow County Tuesday night at Hamilton Crossing Park, 5-4, to reach the championship round of the Georgia District 1 double-elimination tournament.


Cartersville scored twice in the bottom of the first and led 3-1 at the end of the third inning. Bartow County grabbed a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth inning, but Cartersville’s two-run fourth accounted for the game’s final scoring.


Micah Henderson started on the mound for Cartersville and tossed 4-2/3 innings recording three strikeouts. Cade Rogan retired the final four outs on the mound in relief to earn a save. Rogan struck out one.


Easton Stephens had two hits for Cartersville. Alec Higgins and Jack McCurry added one hit each.


For Bartow, Declan Parker finished with three hits including one triple. Jackson Watts had two hits. Knox Janssen, Gray Chancey, Easton Miller, and Brantlee Fowler added one hit each.


The loss drops Bartow County to an elimination game Wednesday night at 6 p.m. against Rockmart. The winner of that game will need two wins against Cartersville in Thursday’s championship round.


Cartersville 8-10 needs one win Thursday to claim the District 1 title.
