Cartersville girls, Cass boys win soccer matchups


The Cartersville and Cass soccer teams split Region 7-5A matches Wednesday night at Cartersville. The Lady Canes blanked the Lady Colonels 3-0 and the Cass boys defeated the Cartersville boys, 3-1.


CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 3, CASS 0


Three different Lady Canes scored goals Wednesday night as the Cartersville girls blanked visiting Cass, 3-0.


Hattie Beth Williams, Kiley McMichael, and Mallory Nicklas scored the Lady Canes’ goals.


Cartersville improved to 4-6-1 on the season and 2-1 in region action.


The Lady Colonels fall to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in Region 7-5A.


CASS BOYS 3, CARTERSVILLE 1


The Colonels built a 2-0 lead in the first half Wednesday night at Cartersville and added to their lead in the second half en route to a 3-1 Region 7-5A win over the Purple Hurricanes.


Alex Hernandez scored the first Cass goal on a free kick. The second goal for the Colonels was finished by Mason Madrid off an assist from Camden Hillhouse.


Cass made it 3-0 in the second half on a Hillhouse goal assisted by Madrid.


Daniel Abeja scored the Cartersville goal at about the 60th minute.


Cass head coach Justin Fitzgerald commended the defensive effort of the Colonels’ Jordan Solis and Kayden Pineda in the midfield.


The loss drops the Hurricanes to 5-4-2 on the season and 2-1 in Region 7-5A.


Cass improves to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in region play.
