Cartersville gymnasts third at recent home meet

The Cartersville High School varsity gymnastics team hosted its second meet on Saturday, February 28, at Cartersville Twisters Gym, competing against strong 5A and 6A programs from Cherokee, Etowah, and Lassiter.


Cartersville earned an impressive third-place overall finish with a team score of 101.750.


Senior Emerie Elrod led the way, placing first on vault with a state preliminary qualifying score of 9.4. She also earned a state preliminary qualifying score of 8.5 on beam.


Freshman Ellie Kate Jones had an outstanding performance, placing third on vault with a state preliminary qualifying score of 9.1. Jones also earned an All-Around preliminary state qualifying score of 34.0, marking an impressive milestone early in her high school career.


Sophomores Sydney Jackson and Adalynn Weir each earned their first preliminary qualifying scores on beam, with strong routines, scoring 8.80 and 8.90, respectively.


"I'm excited about the team's early success. I look forward to what the season holds for this talented and hardworking group of gymnasts," said Cartersville coach Kimberly Mosteller.


The Lady Canes will host their next meet at the Cartersville Twisters Gym on Saturday, March 14.
