The Cartersville High School boys’ golf team secured its second straight GHSA Class 4A State Championship on Tuesday with a two-day total of 582 (14-over par). They defeated the runner-up North Oconee (600, 32-over par) by eighteen shots and third-place Benedictine Military (602, 34-over par) by twenty shots at the 6,415-yard, par-71 Savannah Golf Club. Marist (609) and Westminster (624) rounded out the top five teams in the final standings.
Canes’ junior Bodie Brumlow and sophomore Reid Henson led the Canes, as they defended the Class 4A title they won in 2025 at The Governor’s Club in Acworth. Brumlow, a University of Georgia commit, won the individual state title by firing rounds of 65-69 (8-under par). Henson shot 71-72 (1-over par) to tie Brooks Adams of Marist for second individually.
Carsen Stanfield, a senior who has signed to play golf at USC Upstate, tied for sixth place with a pair of 74s (6-over par). Canes’ senior Griffin Woodall finished tied for 34th (76-83, 17-over), while sophomore Ramsey Dunn (79-82, 19-over) and Carter Rice (75-87, 20-over) rounded out the scoring for the Hurricanes.
Cartersville golf coach Chad Murray reflected on his team's efforts.
"Every team has its own personality," said Murray. "This year's team has a group of fighters. When things were going our way and when things were not, they fought. The final round was a microcosm of that. Some of the guys had things go their way, and some did not. But they never stopped fighting, even when the lead was cut to five (shots) early in the round."
Their strategy for the tournament was 'no friends," Murray continued. "That's not to say we aren't friendly, but rather, it's sending a message that we were there for one reason -- to beat you. I'm so proud of each and every one of these guys. I am going to miss my seniors, and I am already looking forward to getting after it again next year with my returners.
LADY CANES PLACE EIGHTH
The Cartersville Girls’ golf team finished eighth on Tuesday at the 2026 GHSA Class 4A State Championship held at Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah.
The Lady Canes improved on Tuesday with a second-round 273 after shooting a team total of 288 in the first round.
Anna Jo Culverhouse led Cartersville with an 86 on Tuesday after carding an opening round 90 on Monday, and finished 18th individually. Other two-day scores for the Lady Canes included Reese Hertel (97-97), Addie Feurbach (104-91), Mia Miller (101-96), and Ginny Hackney (110-108).
North Oconee won the Class 4A team title, followed by Marist, Starrs Mill, Madison County, and Cambridge in the top five. Ashlyn Taylor of Marist carded a two-day total of 4-over par to edge Delaney McFadden of Blessed Trinity by one shot to win the individual championship.
“The girls did great at state and are a very young team,” noted Murray. “I fully expect next year we will be climbing even further up the list to the top as we build for next season.”
