Cartersville Little League 11U advances, blanks Franklin County

Cartersville Little League 11U baseball won an elimination game Monday night at the 2022 Georgia Little League 9-11 year old state tournament defeating Franklin County, 8-0.

With the win, Cartersville 11U reaches the final four of the double-elimination tournament and advances to another elimination game Tuesday night against the Peachtree City/Harris County winner.

Cartersville pitchers Noah Leffew and Braxton Lemon combined on the shutout.

Leffew made the start and completed five shutout innings. He scattered five hits and three walks while striking out four. Lemon wrapped up the sixth inning on the bump allowing just one hit and no walks. He fanned two.

The Cartersville offense started fast scoring four runs in the first inning and three more in the second to take a commanding lead.

Lemon finished with a pair of hits including one double and one RBI. Max Stepp also had two hits for Cartersville. Will Groce connected for a triple and two RBIs while Demetrius Wynn (2 RBIs), Leffew (2 RBIs), Trey Smith (RBI), and Parker Huth added one hit apiece.

CARTERSVILLE LITTLE LEAGUE 10U BASEBALL ELIMINATED AT STATE TOURNEY

The Cartersville Little League 10U baseball team dropped both of its games Sunday and was eliminated at the 2022 Georgia Little League 8-10 year old state tournament in West Point.

Cartersville fell to Smyrna 7-0 to begin the day and lost to Oconee County 7-3 Sunday evening in an elimination game.

Cartersville 10U fell behind 3-0 to Oconee County before tying the score in the bottom of the fourth inning. A four-run fifth inning by Oconee, however, was the difference in the contest.

Jake Thompson had two hits and one RBI for the locals. Micah Henderson and Jack McCurry added one hit each.

McCurry (0.2 IP, 1ER, 4BB, 1K), Cade Rogan (3.1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 2H, 4BB, 7K), Brock Morris (0.0 IP, 4ER, 4H), and Easton Stephens (2 IP, 0R, 2H, 0BB, 4K) all pitched for Cartersville.
