Cartersville Little League 11U finishes fourth at state tournament
Cartersville Little League 11U baseball was on the wrong end of a walk-off Tuesday night and was eliminated by Harris County 4-3 at the Georgia Little League 9-11 year old state tournament in Athens. Cartersville 11U led 3-1 through four innings but Harris County scored single runs in the fifth and sixth frames to send the game into extra innings.
Cartersville, playing as the visitors, failed to score in the top of the seventh and Harris County produced three consecutive singles in the bottom of the seventh to drive home the game-winning run.
Braxton Lemon suffered the pitching loss for Cartersville in relief of starter Bowen Hardy. Lemon allowed a pair of earned runs on five hits and no walks working the sixth and into the seventh inning. Hardy gave up two earned runs on seven hits and three walks through the first five frames. Hardy struck out five. Lemon fanned two.
Tyler Hickman paced the Cartersville offense with three hits including two doubles and two RBIs. Will Groce contributed a double. Lemon, Trey Smith, and Parker Huth added one hit apiece.
Cartersville Little League 11U, who won the Georgia District 1 title to earn their spot in the state tournament, finished 2-2 at the state tournament and placed fourth.
