Cartersville Little League 12U reaches district championship round

The Cartersville Little League 12U baseball team is one win away from claiming another Georgia District 1 championship following wins on Saturday and Sunday at Hamilton Crossing Park.


Cartersville 12U blanked Cedartown Little League 15-0 on Saturday and defeated Bartow County Little League 13-3 on Sunday to reach the District 1 championship round.


Bartow County 12U and Cedartown 12U are set for an elimination game on Monday night at 6 p.m. at Hamilton Crossing Park. The winner will need two victories against Cartersville to win the District 1 title. The championship round is scheduled for Tuesday, starting at 6 p.m.


The 12U District 1 champion earns one of seven spots in the 2026 Georgia Little League State Tournament, July 18-23 at the Bogart Sports Complex in Oconee County.


Cartersville 12U pitchers Gray Womack and James Williams each recorded three strikeouts and combined for a three-inning, one-hitter and shutout against Cedartown.


Jaxon Tardy and Sam Evans paced the Cartersville offense with three hits apiece. Tardy doubled twice and had four RBI. Evans’ hits included one double and two RBI. Evan Blankenberger (double, RBI) and Womack (RBI) contributed two hits. Nolan Murphy (two RBI), Williams (RBI), Josh Villarreal, and Owen Stephens each added one hit. Hudson Bonner had one RBI.


In the Cartersville 12U’s Sunday win, Villarreal pitched 3-1/3 shutout innings of relief to earn the pitching win. He allowed only one walk and struck out seven batters. Tardy started on the mound and recorded three strikeouts. Evans finished the game by closing out the final five outs.


Everett Sutton (two RBI), Womack (home run, two RBI), and Villarreal paced the Cartersville offense with three hits each. Evans had two doubles and one RBI. Bonner (sac fly, three RBI), Murphy (RBI), Tardy (double, RBI), Grayson Moss, and Blankenberger each added one hit. Stephens added one RBI.


Gatlin Townsend (two RBI), McClain Cook, Kellan Rogers, and Cash Miller each had one hit for Bartow County 12U in their loss. Cole Baker added one RBI. Lukas Holden recorded five strikeouts and allowed just one unearned run in two innings on the mound.
